Forum outage

Hi all,

the forum software started acting up earlier today and made the forum inaccessible for several hours. Attempts to manually revive it were in vain, so we had to restore from last week's backups. I succesfully restored the post, topic and member data to the moment before the crash, so I think most important data wasn't lost.

There may be some general goofiness related to the schizophrenic condition the forum is now in. For example, some avatars seem to be broken.

I suspect a recent forum software upgrade to be responsible for these problems, so it's possible more issues pop up or this happens again. We'll try to find a fix.

That's it, someone must be fired.

Oh wait, you guys do this out of the goodness of your hearts.

Sorry you had the hassle, thanks for the hard work all of you put in.

I don't know if it is relevant, but in the last week I noticed that I wasn't always getting all of the email topic subscription reply notifications - only some of them.

Heh, when I saw the forum offline, I thought it was related to posts disappearing due to Google's Web Accelerator horrendous bugs.

BTW, so that's the reason why I no longer have my avatar?

It appears random avatars broke. Including mine

I'm checking if there is a way to fix all avatars rather than to restore them manually.

I see that some of the image dimensions are also screwed - your (Garf) avatar is a bit deformed.

OT: Why is Fast-Reply disabled? It saves time for both the server (since it doesn't have to send the whole post form) and the user (since he doesn't have to wait for the server/browser to serve/load the full post form).

It's showing the wrong image, actually?!

Edit: Well fixed that. Weirdness!

Sorry, looks like avatars are nonrecoverable. You will have to reupload/reset them.
