MAREO 3.0 Released!

Its finally out! After many months of in-between working, MAREO 3.4 is out. The most important feature, is that it has been simplified a lot. There are much less parameters to pass to it now, and much more friendly INI file.

* rethought the MAREO way of working, resulted in a better/easier MAREO.
* many of the command line parameters are now on the INI file.
* possibility of running "album mode" encoders.
* support for Nero Digital encoder.
* padding option (1 -> 01)

A very special thanks to Synthetic Soul for helping me with the site code.

Speaking of English as the language of the world, just wanted to let you know that your Google link to "hate Microsoft" goes to google.com.ar and for some strange reason it has a bunch of "&"s attached to it as well. I first I thought it was one of those tricks that crash IE, but the link works here with IE6.

No problem with english. The reason I asked  for spanish version is that I speak better spanish than english. But English version is more than `good`.

CDEX :

EAC Setup Example : Delete WAV after compression: unchecked

Isn't there a problem in the configuration info, here?

MAREO 3.0 Released!

Reply #13
no, cause the default INI of MAREO is:

; ----------------
; DOES MAREO DELETES THE WAV FILE AFTER ENCODING (TRUE) OR THE CD RIPPER DOES (FALSE)?
; ----------------
DeleteWavFile = TRUE

if you want the ripper to delete the wav file, set the ini to FALSE, and DO check the EAC/CDex options.

What I meant was, CDEX's option (on your site) says : CHECK to NOT delete file.
and you leave it unchecked. Therefore it deletes.

I know this is a really dumb question, and I really hate to ask, but I'm new at this stuff & I've looked for an answer (or examples, so I could try to figure it out myself) until I'm almost blind.

I don't understand the Placeholder/variable "@1@ .. @nn@  User Defineable".  I'm using EAC, MAREO, FLAC, LAME, & iTunesEncode to transfer my CDs to my hard drive.  Can someone tell me how to setup each program to use a specific user defined variable and maybe give me examples of how to add it in the MARIO.ini file for these programs and also EAC?

Thanks so much for any help!

Right, it works now.
Thanks for fixing the link. =)

Btw, I'll put here what I've wrote over in the old 2.x discussion thread.
Basically suggestions for playlist creation and album gaining.

Hold your breath...

=================================================

Playlist creation is a good idea, and I think it's not too hard to implement either.
M3U playlist is basically a text file with filenames in it, with one filename per line.

Changes in mareo.ini to accomodate playlist creation should be :
  • A new entry called 'PLAYLIST'.
    Its value should be 'TRUE' or 'FALSE'.
  • A new entry to specify the name of the playlist, such as 'PLAYLISTNAME'.
    Ignored when 'PLAYLIST' is set to 'FALSE' or there's no 'PLAYLIST' entry specified.
  • Or, the playlist name can be specified along with 'PLAYLIST'.
    For an example --> [span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%']PLAYLIST = TRUE "@artist@ - @album@.m3u"[/span]
  • A new entry called 'TRACKNUM', which its value is @tracknum@, which is derived from %x (in EAC's case; don't know about CDex) like koend pointed out.
As for MAREO itself, its behaviour should (at the least) be like this :
  • Check if the directory in the 'FULLNAME' entry has a playlist file of the same name.
  • When there's none, create a new M3U file when MAREO's counter reaches @tracknum@.
    Of course, MAREO should scan the directory for files and include them to the playlist file.
  • When there exist a playlist of the same name, just replace the old one.
That's basically it.

Now, regarding album gain, it's not that hard I guess (with EAC at least).
Well, like koend pointed out, %x should make EAC passes the total track number of a given album (CD).
I think you should use that instead of requiring users to input the track number manually.

After that, the filename values for any RG apps should be from scanning the directory in the specified 'FULLNAME' entry.
Or if there's an M3U file, filenames for the RG app can be derived from that.

Thus I propose this new mareo.ini structure :

Code: [Select]
FULLNAME = D:\My Music\MP3\@artist@ - @album@\@track@ - @title@.mp3
ENCODER = C:\encoders\lame.exe
PARAMETERS = -V 2 --vbr-new -Y --ignore-tag-errors --ta "@artist@" --tl "@album@" --tt "@title@" --tn "@track@" --ty @year@ --tg "@genre@" "@source@" "@dest@"
TRACKNUM = @tracknum@
PLAYLIST = TRUE "@album@ - @artist@.m3u"
POSTPROCESS = TRUE ALBUM
POSTPROCESSOR = C:\encoders\mp3gain.exe
POSTPARAMETERS = /a /k /p @filelist@

A few notes for the proposed structure :
  • 'POSTPROCESS' value could be 'TRUE ALBUM', 'TRUE TRACK', or 'FALSE'.
    'TRUE ALBUM' is when you want to do album gain.
    'TRUE TRACK' is when you want to do track gain.
    'FALSE' should make MAREO ignores 'POSTPROCESSOR' and 'POSTPARAMETERS'.
    Please note that when set to 'TRUE ALBUM', MAREO should not do a post-processing until the counter reaches @tracknum@.
  • @filelist@ in 'POSTPARAMETERS' is derived either from scanning the directory in 'FULLNAME' or from an existing (if there's any; MAREO should check this) playlist file which name is like the value in the 'PLAYLIST' entry.
    Also, every filename in the generated @filelist@ should be surrounded with double quotes.
  • It'd be better if MAREO, in scanning a directory, pay attention to file extension and include only those files which has the same extension as what's in the 'FULLNAME' entry for playlist creation and @filelist@ generation when a valid playlist doesn't exist.
  • @filelist@ should be used only when 'POSTPROCESS' is set to 'TRUE ALBUM', and for 'TRUE TRACK' users should use "@finalfullname@" (w/ double quotes).
    Of course, if possible, MAREO should attempt to use @filelist@ when the user sets 'POSTPROCESS' to 'TRUE ALBUM' but 'POSTPARAMETERS' contains "@finalfullname@", and vice versa.
  • Please note that "@finalfullname@" has to use double quotes and @filelist@ doesn't need to, since @filelist@ should already contain a list of double quoted filenames.
    Or you could make @finalfullname@ to include double quotes by default.
That's all I can think of right now.

Do with the default parameters in EAC (mareo.ini %s %d "%a" "%g" "%t" "%n" %y "%m") and you're good to go.
What do you intend to do using user defined variables?

if you need them, you probably figure them out ... the ide is that besides  the normal variables, you could pass mareo more vars, like

mareo xxx xxx xxx xxx userdef1 userdef2

and then use them on the ini file, like if they where normal ones by calling them by name: @1@ or @2@

Thanks for asking, however I don't understand what "user defined variables" are and what they are used for.  I'm just trying to learn as much as I can about MAREO's options before I start transferring all of my CDs.  If I don't understand what something is, I have no way of knowing if it's an option that I could use or not.  I'm really sorry to be such a pain, but when I don't understand something, it drives me nuts.  My mother always told me that "If something is worth doing at all, it's worth doing right" ... and I can't do it right if I don't understand it.  The reason I asked for some examples, is because it's much easier for me to grasp the concept of what someone is trying to tell me if I can "see" what they are talking about.

Appreciate your taking the time to ask me my intentions.

Sorry, I should probably have been more specific.

When I put http://www.webearce.com.ar/ into any web browser, whether it by in IE or firefox on my desktop or laptop, or put it into links on my linux server, I get a host not found error. Could I perhaps get an IP address to get to the address that way? It almost seems as if my DNS servers (verizons) cannot resolve the name for some reason. So maybe an actual IP address might solve the problem.
