0.9.5 installer problems in wine

has anyone been able to get the installer to work in wine? I keep getting this:

I also have problems installing in wine.. I get a different error though, something about missing "Windows.Common.Controls". Tried different things, like installing the VB6 Runtime DLL's and so on.

Have you tried installing foobar in Windows (if you have Windows available) and just copying the resulting installed foobar2000 directory to your Wine directory? I will try that at home.

Could this be something to do with the new WinXP requirement?

I'll have to try installing with wine as well.

Nothing in foobar2000 uses the Visual Basic runtime.

I'll have to try installing with wine as well.

Note that the installer now (in beta 1 at least) requires administrator rights to run. I do not know if or how that would affect running it in Wine, but it might be worth looking into it for you.

I thought the same, but I read somewhere that the errors I got were related to missing VB comonents. Apparently, something else is wrong/missing.

Yeah why is that? I'd like to install foobar2000 at work without bothering the ever busy administrators about it. This was no problem with the previous versions

update: have not yet tried to move a complete foobar2000 directory (as installed in Windows) over to the wine directory and see if that works. I'll keep you posted.

I run Debian Etch 64 bits (as well as Etch 32 bit and Lenny 64 bit in chroots) and am having the same problem as nbv4.  According to a post I saw here, I upgraded Samba, that did not fix it.  I then noticed that Winbind is the program with NTLM authorization, so I installed that as well, but still no luck.

Any tips on getting Foobar installed via Wine would be great!

THE WINDOWS TRICK WORKS!

So, if you have Windows available you can install foobar2000 in Windows, and copy the whole 'foobar2000' directory to your wine (something like ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files) directory. Works like a charm.

edit: It seems to crash when using cover art though...
