Meta field/Tag for cover/album art

Hi there,

is there a meta field/tag show if a cover art is present?
I would like to create an autoplaylist to show if a cover is missing

something like
%cover_art% MISSING

thanks
-Chris

Can't you use the mouse and scroll your Playlist Viewer? If you have the 'Artwork' column enabled, the 'no cover art' items should all be obvious.

The only Autoplaylist/Query Syntax you need is this:
Code: [Select]
ALL

I've over 2000 albums how long should I scroll to find the missing artwork  besides in most folders I've a cover.jpg or folder.jpg that foobar also displays, and that's not the same as embedded artwork

@chiwou, The essential part of your comment is "how long should I..." .

Why is this task so time critical to you? My Media Library is HUGE, and I have never had anybody point a gun to my head telling me to hurry up and finish organizing my collection. I view the perfect organization of my Library as a VERY long term goal.

If there is some kind of signature in the music files if an image is embedded as metadata, then you might be able to use command-line tools and Diffing tools such as Beyond Compare to hunt down the target files.

If you run MP3Tag, and drag your whole collection into it (may take a while to index), you can scroll up and down the list and see which files have embedded artwork. If you highlight everything (CTRL+A), with one click you can remove all embedded artworks from every file if you wish, or you can extract them all to their parent folders. You can export reports too. MP3Tag is a more helpful tool for your task than foobar2000. All you need is some patience.

But as I said, with a patient methodical attitude, and plain old scrolling, you can eventually achieve your goal using foobar2000's Playlist Viewer.

You can restrict artwork sources at preferences>display (for columns UI, preferences>display>columns UI>artwork tab). Just remove all the entries on that list and you shouldn't see any external files included in your library view.

That said, MP3tag will let you directly perform this search. Load your library, open the filter view(F3), and filter by
Code: [Select]
%_covers% IS ""
This will limit the selection to files without embedded cover art. You can also create a column using %_covers% if you would rather just sort instead of filtering. MP3tag also has a nicer interface for working with embedded art than fb2k, in my opinion.

Hello.

I wanted sort files on my playlist by presence of artwork. I don't need to display it or view it. I need only set some value to "yes" or "no", display that "yes/no" in column and sort it. The only question is the expression that will help me extract that info from my files. Is it possible?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hmmm.. It is kind of hint, but I failed to create a column using"%_covers%"... whatever I put there I get a column of "?" :/ it looks like there are directions for MP3 tag which I don't use... I just want to create simple column showing "yes" or "no" - depending weather embedded artowrk is present in the file (FLAC or mp3) or not... It could be something like  $if(%covers%,yes,no)  if there will be variable called %covers%... What should I check? some field? frame? how to do this?

Hmmmm...  It looks like  %_covers% isn't present in foobar2000.  I undretsand that trick with %_covers% applies to MP3Tag only? I would like to got that mysterious expression that will give me results described in first post - in foobar2000. Is there a way to show if embedded  cover art is present or not? Something that would help me create column which would showing simply "yes" or "no"... What should I examine? Some tag/meta field? What is name of it?

If your covers are displaying in foobar2000, I agree you probably didn't add the display column to mp3tag successfully.

Launch mp3tag.  Drag and drop some songs that you know have embedded artwork.  Display the column dialog via the command View > Columns... .In the dialog that appears, hit "new" to create a new display column.  Name the column anything you like.

Still in the dialog, note the right-pointing arrow on the far right of the "value" and "field" boxes.  For each of these, hit that arrow, and follow it down to select "information fields", and observe the new list that appears.  Select one of "cover_size", "cover_type", or "covers"  as you like for that new column.

For the field "covers" (which is actually %_covers%), the column will display 1 if it detects such.  Within mp3tag you can easily create "actions" to set a value in another tag you already have or create within mp3tag based on the value of %_covers%, and then add that new tag to your display in foobar2000 so you can do what you want in foobar2000.

Other helpful stuff: http://help.mp3tag.de/start_firststeps.html

edit: sorry, it took me a minute to discover what happened with the merged discussions, which was a good idea - yes, Epic you can do exactly what is the the first post, but you need to do a few things to implement it because %_covers% is only available in mp3tag.  Mp3tag uses the very similar (if the not same) title formatting for strings as foobar2000, so you can create the tag field mentioned in the first post in mp3tag and add it to your files and then use it for queries in foobar2000.

If you think about it, it's rather silly for graphical album art to somehow need to be exposed in title formatting.

Still, I get what you guys are saying and agree that fb2k should have more robust solutions for helping people organize their artwork. Eventually, though, that ends up being tied into online services which is where pay software like dbpoweramp really have the ability to be better.

Hello. I am wondering if there is really no change or any solution meanwhile. Foobar is so powerful, but this small tiny feature is missing?

Me too - and I also think it's shameful not to have an option to check for embedded Album Art in such an otherwise perfect player as foobar2000.
