How can I convert audio from DVD-Video to another format, e.g. FLAC?

Hello, I have some ISO images i ripped off of DVDs and I was wondering exactly how i'd go about stripping the FLAC audio from the ISO?
I like to compile album versions of concert DVDs like this.

I was thinking i could convert it to, or try to get my hands on an, mkv copy and split the audio?  but I dont think that would work very well.

any suggestions/solutions?
  thank you!

the FLAC audio from the ISO
No such thing exists since FLAC is completely unrelated to DVD, be it DVD-Video or DVD-Audio. Moving accordingly.

You can extract the audio in some form and then convert it to FLAC.

What db1989 was telling you was that you posted into the wrong forum, since the audio on the DVD does not exist as FLAC.

I specifically made this account to ask here, since i'm an avid user of foobar and i figured someone here would know a simpler way for me to get FLAC out of this.  and i wasnt exactly sure where to post this.  but alright.
Does anyone know of any good audio splitting/extraction programs for this purpose?

This post is kind of disorganized, but it might help. I mention specific software here, but you can definitely use other software. Usually my process is something like this:

1. Rip the disc using [removed] (requires installation, sadly).
DVD's VOB files are split into 1GB sections, [removed] has an option to create one large file instead of multiple smaller ones, saving you time stitching things together later.

2. Demux the audio from the VOB files. I use VobEdit because it's the first i found way back when, the interfeace isn't the most intuitive, but it works.

3. You now have the audio files. It can be one of several formats, only one of them is lossless: PCM (or WAV). DTS, AC3 and the others are all lossy.
If it's PCM, i open the file with Audacity (Important: disable dithering in the settings), split and export to FLAC.
If it's any other format, i split with appropriate software (usually invloves the command line), sometimes use a container format.

I don't know how to get anything out of an ISO file.    You'll need to convert your ISO file back to the standard DVD format (or burn a DVD) to get a normal DVD structure with a VIDEO_TS folder containg VOB files, etc.  The VOB files are MPEG-2 video multiplexed with audio in one of the DVD compatible formats.

I generally use Corel Video Studio ($100 USD).  I can open/import a (non-encrypted) DVD, edit the audio/video, and optionally create an audio file.

Or, if you search, you can find "DVD Audio Rippers".

Here's another way to do it -  Use VOB2MPG (FREE!!!) to combine your (non-encrypted) VOB files into one big MPEG-2 file.  That process is lossless.    (The VOB files are split at 1GB boundries, and if you don't join them. you'll get splits in the middle of songs.)

Then, you should be able to open the MPG file with an audio editor (such as Audacity).  (The audio editor will open the audio and ignore the video.)  Then, you can edit & save (export) the audio in the format of your choice.  With Audacity, you'll need to install the optional FFMPEG library in order to open Dolby AC3 files.

If you want individual song files, you will need to use an audio editor to split and fade-in/out the applause.  I generally use GoldWave ($50).  Or, Audacity is FREE!

Or, many "audio converter" programs will also extract the audio from an MPEG-2 (or VOB) audio/video file to create an audio-only file.  I believe XRECODE will do that.  TAudioConverter might be worth a try too.

There is another very handy FREE program called SUPER that can convert to/from almost any audio/video format and/or extract the audio or video.    But, I have to give you a big WARNING -  The website is tricky...  There are ads for other software and it's hard to find the SUPER download.  (I think the install file is called SUPERsetup.exe.)  Then when you install it, it tries to tick you into installing some other crapware too.

It can be rather slow.  You aren't trying to directly convert an ISO file are you?  An ISO file isn't an audio/video file, it's some kind of "package file" that contains all of the files & details for your DVD.

I figured it out after a while, and managed to convert and split all the files to wav and then FLAC.
Success, finally haha.  thank you all for the help.

It is good you solved your problem but i would like to add something.
You don't have to burn ISO image. You can mount it using virtual drive software, like Alcohol 52 or Daemon Tools, and everything that works with original DVD will work with image.

Are these DVD-Video or DVD-Audio disks? Are you trying to rip 5.1 or stereo?

If we assume that they're DVD-Video and you're trying to rip stereo, most likely there's an LPCM track.

If you have an mkv file with the stereo soundtrack, just use ffmpeg:

ffmpeg -i concert.mkv concert.flac.

You'll still need to figure out how to split the tracks, if you want to do that.
