Some of the reasons I like this:

Serves only music, no pictures, no movies, just the music
Fast scanning of large collection of FLAC files
Regular updates.

Not sure if this was asked, but are you using the Logitech or community build of LMS.

Thanks

Keep up the great work

Daphile is using Logitech's nightly builds. It's a bit cut down (eg. unnecessary perl libs removed, etc...) and slightly patched (really minor mods) version. The CPAN Audioscan is patched for DSD support.

kipeta,
Thank you for bringing us such a clever system, I have been using/testing various headless computer players 5 years, source hardware changed from internal RME card to HiFace EVO via USB, I have to admit that this is one of the best sounded OS (Windows & Linux, cannot comment on Mac as I am not Mac user) and most importantly the system just make sense, single purpose music player and server with easy setup and very stable, did I mention about it sound excellent? I urge everyone looking for the best sound OS should try Daphile, the sound play through Daphile just clean and fast, you don´t have to worry about DSP setting, up sampling because you don´t need it, it just sound natural.
For reference, I store my Hi-res file in NAS, CD rip in single FLAC with cue sheet store in external USB portable HDD. IBM Thinkcentre as player w/SSD HD and USB3 card, Hi-Face EVO + clock convert to SPDIF feed into Esoteric AI-10 digital amp drive a pair of Maggie 1.7.
Keep up the good work!

So what do you think makes Daphile sound good, and what are you comparing against?

Any special reason to prefer relying on a cue sheet? Doesn't that restrict your choice of software quite a bit?

julf,
From win xp to win 7, foobar with or without up sampling, cplay, rplay, JRM, Media Monkey, Linux ubuntu studio, Audiophile Linux, Gentoo and other distros I couldn´t remember the name, players mainly deadbeef, Audacious, JRM Linux etc.

For archive purpose, I just store a single flac file with cue sheet due to personal preference and cplay only take cue sheet (it was the best sound back then).

Hope this help.

Thanks, but not really. Until you provide a description of your test setup along with listening test result logs, it is all adecnotal and subjective - not very useful.

guys, enjoying music is subjective, I am just trying to share the experience on what I found and I am not saying it is THE best sound OS, and I have no connection with Daphile. It is up to you if you want to try it and you do not need to pay a penny at least for now. By the way, although I believed in 1 and 0 are identical push out from all computers, the user interface and the way how it setup are very much personal e.g. I don´t need to setup vnc/ssh for remote access nor I need to compile custom driver etc, it just make it a step forward compare to my previous experience.

You made a claim that Daphile was better than other OSes for sound. You agreed to a set of TOS when you signed up.

Daphile is not a new OS, it's just stuff sat on top of an existing OS.

Just because you prefer a particular UI does not make it sound better.

If someone tries so much players and hear them all to sound different there must be indeed some problem but i doubt it is some technological thing.
Is troll-adiposity coming from feederism?
With 24bit music you can listen to silence much louder!
