Cyrillic plugin fb2k 1.1

God afternoon.

First post on the forums. I'm a proud user of FB2k for a few years, absolutely brilliant musicplayer.

I have recently started listening to a Russian band called Sector Gaza. My problem is that all the song / album titles are in cyrillic. I'm from sweden and don't read russian/cyrillic letters at all. Are there any plugins (which are safe from spyware etc) that converts cyrillic letters to western letters?

Thank you,

/ Kn'a'ckeh'a'xan

I might be completely wrong (because I never used that plugin), but you could try Chacon?

Best would probably be to test it with copies of your original files...
This is HA. Not the Jerry Springer Show.

google search for Cyrillic to Latin Converter
http://guru.hit.bg/

but whats the point to convert if you still cant understand the language
better is using google mass translate them, save to a new tag and display beside cyrillic one

Problem.

Album titles where easy to translate. Didn't even have to convert the cyrillic letters to latin. Google translate managed. Allthough. All the tracks have their names already converted to latin letters, in foobar they show up as nonsence. "iâûÔîê" etc. etc.

Can't translate these in google, they just show up as the original text.

According wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyrillic_alph..._and_typography then pasting those characters in some online Cyrillic-Latin Encoder like this for example: http://www.uni-bonn.de/~manfear/cyrlatencoder.php results in this:

Code: [Select]
а-б-в-г-д-е-ё-ж-з-и-й-к-л-м-н-о-п-р-с-т-у-ф-х-ц-ч-ш-щ-ъ-ы-ь-э-ю-я
a-b-v-g-d-e-ё-zh-z-i-j-k-l-m-n-o-p-r-s-t-u-f-h-c-ch-sh-sht-y-ы-j-э-ju-ja

А-Б-В-Г-Д-Е-Ё-Ж-З-И-Й-К-Л-М-Н-О-П-Р-С-Т-У-Ф-Х-Ц-Ч-Ш-Щ-Ъ-Ы-Ь-Э-Ю-Я
A-B-V-G-D-E-Ё-Zh-Z-I-J-K-L-M-N-O-P-R-S-T-U-F-H-C-Ch-Sh-Sht-Y-Ы-J-Э-Ju-Ja

Now you can simply use $replace() function and above mappings (maybe someone from Russia can comment?)

Code: [Select]
$replace(%title%,А,A,Б,B,В,V,Г,G,Д,D,Е,E,Ж,Zh,З,Z,И,I,Й,J,К,K,Л,L,М,M,Н,N,О,O,П,P,Р,R,С,S,Т,T,У,U,Ф,F,Х,H,Ц,C,Ч,Ch,Ш,Sh,Щ,Sht,Ъ,Y,Ь,J,Ю,Ju,Я,Ja,а,a,б,b,в,v,г,g,д,d,е,e,ж,zh,з,z,и,i,й,j,к,k,л,l,м,m,н,n,о,o,п,p,р,r,с,s,т,t,у,u,ф,f,х,h,ц,c,ч,ch,ш,sh,щ,sht,ъ,y,ь,j,ю,ju,я,ja)

If foobar doesn't show correctly Cyrillic characters, first use foo_chacon as suggested

Hope it helps

It apears that the encoding is wrong. Those are cyrillic letters codes displayed using Western European codepage. One way is to use Mp3tag to convert the title tags to Cyrillic codepage (CP1251). Then you can transliterate titles to latin.

Here in Serbia we use both cyrillic and latin alphabet to write serbian. I use unicode encoded tags (id3v2.3 or id3v2.4), and I have no problems. You can even mix the two scripts in one tag...

Again. Thank you so much for the help guys. Really appreciate it.

I used the Chacon plugin and it "translated" all titles into cyrillic. So far so good. Now onto translating. Google works a charm now, with proper cyrillic letters.

eevan: Thx for the tip. I'll have to look into that.

Onto my next question: All is good in the Foobar playlist, but in my music folder the filetags are still the same "bugged" ones. Can foobar (via a plugin perhaps?) save the tags to the original files? Or am i stuck with doing it manually?

Since i have a music collection of 80+ Gb (not all with broken tags though) it's alot of work

As you might have understood by now, i'm a complete newbie when it comes to anything more than just playing the music in foobar.

Thx,
Kn'a'ckeH'a'xan

Fixing the tags with Chacon already retags the original files. If you mean the filenames, you can also use the File Operations component, which is bundled with the installer, to rename the files.
