Playlist disappears when a new file is clicked

I have a number of playlists with large numbers of music files. If I am currently within one of those playlists, and then go to a website and play any sound file (dictionary pronunciation, for example), that file replaces the whole playlist with itself. All the songs in that list are gone.
Is there any way around this?

Many thanks!

Jack

file>preferences>shell integration. you can either choose to enqueue the new track(s) or you can send them to a new playlist.

remember you can also use the main menu>edit>undo to revert any accidental changes made to playlists.

This really needs to be added to the FAQ.

I know! That would be cruel. So would searching the forum before asking questions.

Might be a good idea to make "unexpectedly trash the user's work" not the default, and dump&replace every shell-opened file in a playlist called "shell opened" or something.

Maybe, yeah.

It’s worth pointing out again, for the OP or in case anyone else ever does search and finds this, that there’s always Edit: Undo to recover the previous contents of a just-overwritten playlist.

Thanks. The shell integration page will also apparently allow you to both enqueue the new track and send it to a new playlist. Perhaps I should make a special playlist and direct such files to be sent there.

I was too stupid, well, let's say uninformed, to think of the "Edit/undo" choice.

I appreciate this reply

BenB and db1989:  A big "mea culpa". I was tired and late, but there really isn't a good excuse for not doing a search before posting. Sorry.

I like that idea, but admit to not seeking a workaround before posting my question.
Thanks.

Well, at least now we have another thread that folks might find when searching in the future.

dhromed’s suggestion could be good as an option, alongside the current behaviour for Play and the option to Enqueue. Also: an option to enqueue and play.
