Filtering Tracks from Various Artist Albums

Hello everyone,

I apologize if this particular question has been asked and answered before, but I spent all night last night trying to find an answer to no avail. Part of it might be because I'm new to foobar and I'm still not super comfortable with what all the terms refer to. I'm using foobar with the DarkOne v4.0 theme which uses Columns UI, and when I click on an artist in the artist selector, I get a list of all albums where they are the album artist. My desired behavior is to be able to click on an artist and get a list of their albums AND any tracks they are the track artist on. Furthermore, I'd like to continue to see the "Various Artists" entry in the artists list and be able to use it to access all of my compilation albums. I've followed the Encouraged Tag Standards, all of my VA albums are labeled "Various Artists" in the Album Artist field and all of the individual tracks have the base Artist field correctly set. Is there such a way to do that?

I apologize if there's not enough info in there, I'm still all thumbs enough to not know what is and isn't important to mention.



The above is my current settings for Columns UI filters.

When I click on "Various Artists", you can see in the first album the second track is by Amanda Palmer:



When I click on Amanda Palmer though, it doesn't show up there:



Ideally, I'd like to have the song show up in both places. Is that possible? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also, if you need more information about my setup, please let me know!

A CUI filter can only show the contents of one tag. Your "Artist" filter has "Album Artist;Artist" as the field which means that filter will display the contents of the album artist tag if the tag exists but, if it doesn't, then the filter will display the contents of the artist tag.

To fix it so all of an artist's tracks (including those on compilations) appear when you click on his/her name in that filter, you'll need to change the field to Artist only.

If you want to see the contents of the Album Artist tag, you'll need to set up a separate filter for it and add the filter to your layout.

Thanks for the tip! It got me close enough to where I was trying to go. I was really over-thinking it last night. I appreciate the prompt response!
