foobar2000: disabling library dynamic search permanently, [Support is not for how-to? questions] Options

HI!! I'm not sure if I overlooked something in prefs but can't find any option to turn off dynamic search while I type the expression in library search (Library->Seacrh) dlg. As I have quite extensive music database already, performing dynamic search during I type expression gives very long and annoying delays (see the picture), so that performing search takes incredibly long or even foobar2000 freezes and crashes. So the intention is: let me to write complete search expression without disturbing me by any useless searches, after my expression is complete then let me hit Enter to perform the search finally. I hope there's such a possibility, that would be very helpful for me as library search is quite frequent use feature for me.

I agree! A methodology that respects typing would be nice. While typing, no search. With some delay, search is performed. Something like that.

I think your foobar2000 installation shouldn't freeze or even crash - it doesn't matter how great your library is. So something other must be wrong.
How great is your library, do you have a crash report?

The database size I counted is something over 70000 items and the crush report said "Illegal operation" and it happened evidently due to foobar`s temporary unresponsiveness when I was trying to type another keystrokes. Anyway question if fb200 should or should not be crashing is secondary here because it`s only consequence of problem I described - continually performed searches while pausing typing for a while. If there was at least choice to set the idle period before performing the dynamic search...this delay is definitely too short.

I doubt it. Test your hardware.

Heh, I wouldn't call that "very small", though you're right that it's nothing foobar can't handle.

Other than the state of the hardware, the location of the music may affect response time. Is the music accessed through a network, by any chance?

Fwo! That is a lot of components. A wild guess of mine is that one or more of these is storing data that causes severe lags in the search box.

Do you have maybe other reasons to turn off dynamic search than the freezing and crashing of foobar2000? Your installation seems to have a problem; if that problem is solved you don't need anymore turning on/off of dynamic search.

Try searching in a clean installation: if the problem still exists there then you can exclude the installed components as troublemaker.

So. I made clean foobar installation into clean profile and the performance really improved. But not so much to make dynamic search favourable. By slow typing it still takes 1-10 seconds between subsequent keystrokes (depending on the dynamic search size). I really prefere to not tune up foobar installation but rather get rid of this superfluous feature, no real need for dynamic search for me.

Probably yes but the primary goal was to make some use of Library Search component and I'm not sure that this makes any improvement to search performance, as I wrote made clean installation with core components only, clean profile and clean database foobar started in 6 seconds and the search responsiveness wasnot satisfactory though.

Setting time interval for trigger or limiting trigger after typing desired number or character, somewhere in advanced preferences, would be more sensitive IMHO
