Presonus inspire 1394 as a soundcard? |

This might be a very stupid question, but I'm planning of purchasing a presonus inspire 1394 audio interface for recording using my laptop. It connects through firewire. My question is, can I also use this as a soundcard upgrade for regular music playback through foobar2000 (or any other app)? My integrated audio sucks, and I wanted to get an upgrade card, but will the inspire be able to serve that purpose?

edit 2: I made a loop of questions which just brought me back to the beginning.... so the original question remains, can a regular audio player like foobar send audio to a firewire (specifically the inspire) audio interface? Would this question be better in the foobar forum?

Yes, this is a soundcard, along with other hardware in the same package. It does both input and output. It can serve as the output device for any reasonable audio application.

This means that it will look like a standard sound output device to any windows application using the WDM path. You can also get higher quality (by bypassing the kmixer and therefore resampling in the NT kernel) by using ASIO instead. ASIO output plugins are available for Foobar and Winamp amongst others. One slight caveat is that you will probably have to use the Presonus control application to change volume when using ASIO. |
