Burn using WavPack embedded Cue

Burn using WavPack embedded Cue

I usually use Nero for burning and know how to use a Cue Sheet to burn an image like a CDimage.ape, CDimage.flac, etc. inorder to get tracks instead of one big track for a whole album.

I am new to WavPack. Using Speek's Wavpack GUI with no special instructions I decompressed a CDImage.wv.wv to a CDImage.wv.wav.

There was no .wvc file (not needed, lossless .wv file I guess) nor was their a .cue file.

If I try burning CDImage.wv.wv or the decompressed CDImage.wv.wav I'm going to get one big track.

On a hunch I drag the CDImage.wv.wv file into foobar2000 and Holy Cow, there are the individual 12 tracks properly named for playing.

Fairly new to foobar2000 as well, but I use it to convert and don't check output single file and once again, Holy Smoke, foobar2000 produces 12 numbered .wav files.

The thing is, I could burn this with Nero and manually type in the artist and track info so I get CD-TEXT burnt and can later create a Jewel Case using Roxio without typing the track info in, but I figure there must be a better way.

If I was using foobar2000 to convert to mp3 files, I hope there would be a way to create mp3 tags based on the info in the WavPack embedded cue file.

Is there a way to do this with foobar2000 for mp3 ??

Anyhow this time around I am NOT creating mp3 but plan to burn to disk, with Nero, unless there is an easier way.

Since .wav files do not have tags (they don't do they?) foobar would have to output a standalone cue file to go up against the original CDImage.wv.wv, or a single decompressed CDImage.wv.wav, or maybe create a PLAYLIST, which Nero will understand and use to burn the foobar outputted individual numbered .wav files, but with CD-TEXT of performer and song title.

Pardon my cross post in advance, but there are two forums that mention WavPack here in Hydrogen Audio, and of course the foobar forum here too.

By the way, are there any other foobar2000, or Wavpack forums?

Thanks.

If there is an embedded cue in the WavPack file, Burrrn can read the cuesheet and burn to CD with all the tracks in correct order.

I'm not the best person to answer this because I don't use image+cuesheets very much (and have never burned one) but until someone who knows answers I can offer a few ideas.

You could use foobar to generate individual tracks in a lossless format (like WavPack) and then burn those using Nero (which would read the tags). Foobar can put tags on wav files, but I suspect Nero will not use them (and might even barf on them).

I also think that if you have Nero installed, foobar can use its burning engine to burn CDs. Again, I have never actually done this, but if it would work then it would be ideal. And yes, I believe that Burrrrn can use the enbedded cuesheet as well.

Good luck...

Yes, foobar will use meta data in a cuesheet just the same as tags - so if present they will be used to tag any track MP3s you make.

You have a few options here really.
  • Use Burrrn as suggested above - the latest version handles embedded cuesheets
  • Use foobar to burn using the Nero engine
  • Extract the cuesheet* from the file and use that with Nero using the WavPack Nero plugin
* In foobar 0.8.3, select one or more tracks, choose "Properties..." from the context menu, and then copy the text from the CUESHEET tag. IN 0.9 select one file and choose "Utils > Edit cuesheet" from the context menu.  In both cases save the text to "CDImage.wv.cue" in the same folder as "CDImage.wv.wv".  Then, either rename the file "CDImage.wv.wv" to "CDImage.wv" or edit the cuesheet to ensure that the FILE reference is "CDImage.wv.wv"

Why all the .wv.wv/.wv.cue stuff?

I just leave the cuesheet saying "Album.wav" and embed it into an image called "Album.wv". Works perfectly. If I need to burn I just extract the cuesheet and decompress the WavPack file.

Edit: Obviously "Album" is the title of the particular album, sorry if that could confuse.

EAC creates files with a ".wv.wv" extension (as it doesn't understand extensions that aren't 3 characters long, like ".flac.flac", ".la.la" - not the Teletubby).

"CDIMage.wv.cue" is also an EAC convention.

It is obviously neatest to use "CDImage.wv", or "<album>.wv" - but if his file is "CDImage.wv.wv" then I need to provide help based on that fact, and in the knowledge that it is an EAC-generated file.

I don't really want to get into his file naming conventions at this time.  One issue at a time.
