My Panasonic head unit fades-in MP3s played by USB; why, how to avoid? |

I've recently re-ripped my entire music collection using EAC + Mareo -> FLAC + Lame.
(Mp3's are 320 CBR) When trying to play them back on my Panasonic Head Unit from a flash drive, the beginning of the songs are fading in. It doesn't happen when skipping to a track, but if I listen from track 1 into track 2, the very beginning fades in. I'm wondering if this could be a pre-gap type issue or maybe the head unit is rubbish and is buffering the next track? Just used the default 'Append pre-gap to end of track' in EAC. Anyone had similar experiences / thoughts? |

Pregaps are just the ~2 seconds (usually of silence) that an audio CD will play before a track. Pregaps are normally denoted by the time display counting negative numbers backwards to zero, at which point the next track begins. The standard method of appending the pregap to the end of the previous track is the standard for ripping, as it normally just adds 2 seconds of silence to the end of the track (as having 2 seconds of silence at the beginning of every track would be a little strange). Does this Panasonic unit of yours have any kind of options you can configure? It sounds to me like the fade-ins might be some kind of a "feature" that you can disable.

It sounds like the headunit more than anything to me. If it was clipping the beginning or end then I'd say it was a bug but fades are normally down to the player.

Doesn't seem to be any additional configuration available for the head unit.
I discovered something else...when playing a track from an album in one folder - if I browse to another folder/album and select a song from there it 'fades in' in the same way. Definitely looks like a way of disguising the new track still buffering? |

They probably shipped your firmware with the fade on track change hard coded to on. Probably worth googling to see if theres a firmware update or work around.
