Need recommendation for headphones for mp3 player

Hi, I just recently got a Sansa Clip Zip and I don't want to take my Ultrasone HFI-580's outdoors (too expensive for me to lose or have them get stolen, I live in a large city)

anyway I *was* going to get the cheaper ultrasone HFI-450's which had all been at $69.99 everywhere, then all of a sudden the company jacks up the retail price to $99.99 (which I think is really shady of them...) so I'm looking for a decent over the ear headphones (I can't stand bud headphones) with good bass and balanced mids, etc I thought maybe something from Beyer Dynamic. In the past I've owned Sennheisers for mp3 players, but for me their prices don't match the sound quality (I think they are overpriced for what I hear)

Can someone recommend a good pair of cans under $80 that have great bass but don't (what's the word..) 'muddle' the sound?

Thanks for any help, much appreciated.

For mobile use, I've always loved the Sennheiser PX-100s. They're cheap and durable, and deliver sound that is miles above what you'd expect for the $45 price tag. I have the older version, the newer PX-100 II version is a bit more durable, but retains the great sound. For such small cans, they "out-bass" a lot of bigger, more expensive cans.

E: They're open-backed 'phones, for what it's worth. Don't get the closed-back PX-200 ones, they're not nearly as good.

For a closed set of headphones in that price range, I love my Beyerdynamic DT-231s. Similarly rugged build and good sound quality for the price. Very comfortable, too. I've had my set for over 10 years now, and apart from having had to replace the earpads once (the foam inside disintegrated), they've stood up to all kinds of torture. I've had them yanked off my head by door handles, run over the cable with my office chair countless times, they'll stand up to just about anything. And with their drab olive plastic look, they're not exactly a theft magnet. Bass is solid, but not overwhelming. You can EQ the bass way up and they'll take it gladly.

A few more headphones under $100 USD that have reputations for being some of the best in their price ranges:

Koss PortaPro
Grado SR60
Superlux HD668B

Koss KSC-75. Can be purchased 20 dollars a pair. Superior bass to the Senns and are wonderfully open and dynamic. If you are going to install Rockbox I think they can be tuned to rival much more expensive options.

If you use them heavily, any portable headphone has to be replaced fairly frequently so this is something to consider as well.

I have owned the KSC-75, if you're fine with open headphones, they're pretty great for their money. They're also very light.
I had to move to in-ear phones because the trains are so loud I have to raise the volume too much to hear anything, which was a pity to be honest.
