As the title says, foobar is deleting embedded covers that i put into my mp3 files.

Foobar 1.1.11, but I've noticed it on older versions as well.

It is my music player of choice, so i would prefer to keep using it, but only if i can solve this.

Here is the report from the components:

foo_w7shell.dll (2010-01-17 03:09:20 UTC)
Windows 7 integration 0.2.9.1

I am gessing that it0s some of those.

Has anyone encountered this and can solve it?

Can you describe a way to reproduce your issue?

You play a song in foobar smile.gif

But seriously, that's it. It does not ALWAYS delete the cover, but it does it a lot. I can't check how much in percentage, as I'm tired of fixing those covers.
I have goone through preferences and found only one suspicious (maybe) thing:
preferences -> display -> album art
there where some search pattern rules.

i set the view in win explorer (win7) to thumbnails or play the mp3s in another music player.

And to REALLY prove, i open the files in mp3tag, and sure enough, there are no covers there.

Ok, that never ever happened to me. Sorry, no idea what is going on with your covers!

Just for clarity: Does foobar2000s art viewer also stop showing the cover?

This is only affecting embedded covers? Or also external covers? Are you absolutely sure the files you look at have embedded covers and not external ones? It's just I never heard of this issue before, and cannot think of a way it can occur.

I never use external covers, so i would not know if those are affected as well. If a used some weird component, i'd know who the suspect is.
At first I thought it might be WMP playing smart, but than i remembered i uninstalled it and removed every mention of it, including registry.
Than I though it might be lyrics show component, but automatic tag saving is disabled, and the problem occurred even after I had removed it.

Well once the cover gets deleted, it does not show it, no. Woks fine in normal circumstances. No problem, I know it's a weird problem that could have 10s of causes.

Thanks for your interest.

Just a guess... I've had some weird issues with embedded with f2k converting id3v2.3 to v2.4. After forcing f2k not to write v2.4 tags, the problems disappeared.

If you tag your music with only Mp3tag and foobar2000, which is what I do, I can say I don't have any album art disappearing from my mp3 and m4a files. If I had to guess, I'd say it was WMP, maybe it's not as deleted as you think?

(Worst case, make all your music files Read-only, and hope you don't need to update tags often so you don't get annoyed at that)

That also can't be the reason because op is using 1.1.11 version and changelog for this version:
QUOTE
Cleaned up advanced preferences for MP3 tagging (beta 2)
“Force preferred tagging scheme” option gone - use the “MP3 tag types” dialog to convert between different tag types.
