Hi!
I own an iriver H10, which still works well, especially with Rockbox, but the battery time is starting to annoy me. So I'm looking for a flash based mp3 player with the best audio quality possible. I'm not that interested in video support, but I want a long battery life. I've been looking at Iaudio 7, but it seems as if it has got mixed reviews. Any suggestions? Nille |

The battery life on it is great.. the only thing that kind of bothers me is the controls are a bit sensitive even when the sensitivity is set to low. Other than that it's great! |

I suggest you hold off until sept. 9, Apple is rumored to announce new iPods (maybe they'll have better battery life, who knows).

If you don't want to wait to see what Apple is doing, I suggest going with either a Sandisk Sansa Clip or a Creative Zen (or the newer Zen X-Fi). I have used a Sansa Clip before and preferred it to my iPod shuffle. The only problem with the Clip that I can find is its lack of codec support. I have many mpeg-4 AAC (LC) non-DRM files which I would have liked to play but couldn't. I prefer my Creative Zen though as it is small, gets great battery life, supports the mpeg-4 AAC (non-DRM only) format, and has the ability to play videos (video playback is a feature that many people say they don't want and then end up using anyway).
Sound quality is always going to be subjective but I much prefer my Zen. I currently have a 2G iPod shuffle, 5G 60GB iPod, 1G 16GB iPod touch, 30GB Halo 3 Zune, and 8GB Creative Zen. I think that my Zen has the best quality out of all of them with my Zune coming in second, my 5G and iPod shuffle coming in third, and my iPod touch coming in last (I think that the constant hiss is annoying). The Zen's also go up to 32GB in capacity which means that you can store a bunch of lossy music. The Zen X-Fi was released not too long ago and I haven't had any experience with it. From what I have heard though, things are rather good. Creative claims that the X-Fi uses the same audio restoration technology that their X-Fi soundcards use. From the reviews I have seen, this technology really can't be heard especially in mobile environments. The reviews still say that the X-Fi is a tad better than the normal Zen in terms of sound quality. Either way, I would have to recommend either the Zen or the Zen X-Fi if you want a full featured portable player or the Sansa Clip if you want more of a sync-and-go option. |
