hello
i have a feeling someone has asked this before but my search terms of the forums didnt bring me to anything usefull or exactly what im looking for. anyway i am looking to rip some songs to MP3 using EAC+LAME with the absolute maximum sound quality at 48khz with no regard to how big the file size is. i know many people will ask me why? well just because lol and others will say just rip to .wav and my answer to that is that i want all the features MP3 has that wav does not. in fact if i could just somehow rip to MP3 with still the same file size of a wav i dont care i just want it on mp3 format. so my specs for what i want are mp3's with 48khz sample rate maximum bitrate possible in mp3 format maximum actual audio quality stereo of course and all the newest ID3 tagging options and any other tagging options i dont know about. the question is i need help as im some what of a newbie with major advanced mp3 encoding ( i can do the basic stuff ) especially using EAC and LAME and witch LAME compile and LAME version (including 3.5 stable) would suit my specific needs. if anyone can help please do. |

Please read the FAQ and inform yourself about lossless codecs.
And reformat your post so it's somewhat readable (bad grammar/spelling aside). dev0 |

Go with the modified LAME 3.90.3 using "--alt-preset insane".
It will give you 320 kbps (the maximum standard bitrate for MP3), joint stereo and 44100 Hz. If you are wondering why you should use joint stereo instead of stereo: the quality is the same. If you are wondering why you should use 44100 Hz instead of 48000 Hz: a CD has only 44100 Hz so upsampling might make quality worse as LAME was optimized for 44.1 KHz. Also, please read the FAQ before posting. Edit: Anyway, "--alt-preset standard" or "--alt-preset extreme" should be enough, too. QUOTE (Sebastian Mares @ Jan 12 2004, 06:24 AM) QUOTE and my answer to that is that i want all the features MP3 has that wav does not What would that be? I think he means tagging. MP3 doesn´t have a real tagging standard! For the best quality, with all tagging options you should use FLAC, Wavpack, Optimfrog, Monkeys Audio, WMA Lossless, ... |

QUOTE (murassmeblade @ Jan 12 2004, 02:52 PM) 48khz sample rate i hope you are nothing talkinb about rippings Cd- which are in 44.1 khz upsampling will in best scenario give nothing quality wise. and worst case scenario reduce quality. -------------------- Sven Bent - Denmark

For the best quality, with all tagging options you should use FLAC, Wavpack, Optimfrog, Monkeys Audio, WMA Lossless, ... Yet, ID3 is quite well entrenched. He's asking for the best possible quality in mp3, so just grant him a relevant answer. It will be a different matter when he realises the existence of lossless codecs, or when he elaborates on his weird choice of parameters, or when he learns more about the mp3 format and the power of -aps. |
