I'm noticing - on particular tracks more noticably - some audio processing happening during playback. It sounds like extreme dynamic compression - or possibly even expansion going on. It causes the playback levels to pulse in and out which creates a "breathing" effect. This makes the music hard to listen to.

I checked and my playback replaygain processing setting is "none".

Is there something else that could be causing this? When I play the same tracks in itunes they sound fine.

(I didn't post this in tech support as I'm not getting an error. I'm guessing I just have a setting wrong)

Stick an Advanced Limiter at the end of your DSP list and watch the problem vanish.

Thanks for pointing me to that thread. Using autolevel seems to have remedied it. I can see now how I would have noticed this more on certain tracks - both due to the music itself as well as me having saved unique eq presets.

Regarding "Stick an Advanced Limiter at the end of your DSP list and watch the problem vanish.", how/where do I do that? Or should I just keep reading this thread? (I stopped at autolevel) smile.gif

Thanks again.

It also helps if, when using the equalizer, you use Auto Level to reduce frequencies so that the loudest band is +/- 0 dB, rather than any one band being greater than zero.

What happens if you instead choose the prevent clipping according to peak option?
