Will DirectSound resample a stream at system sample rate, e.g. 96 kHz?, TOS5: 1.5 yr bump from “DirectSound, WASAPI, Foobar, B…” (topic 77910)

hi,
i would like to ask a question.
DirectSound resamples stream to current system settings. if i provide a stream that is at system sample rate (say 96kHz), will DirectSound leave it untouched, or will it be converted to 48kHz for internal processing, and then converted back to 96kHz when at output?

A description of Win audio can be found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd...0(v=VS.85).aspx

The mixer expect all audio to have the same sample rate.
This is what you specify in the sound panel.
If you set this to 24/96 and you play a native stream of 24/96 no resampling is needed.

Regardless the properties of the native sample rate, the output will always be the values set in the sound panel.
As the mixer is supposed to mix, it will convert everything to 32 float to do the processing.
The output will be converted to the bit depth of the audio device and dithered.
By design using the mixer won’t deliver bit perfect output.
