Editors note: CoverDownloader has been renamed Album Art downloader and the development can be followed in this thread.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just spent some of my morning reading through the entire CoverDownloader thread. Here's what I learned. 1) The only working script in the coverdownloader_4_0b.zip download are amazon and walmart. 2) Others have posted updated scripts but they're time consuming to find and/or easily make work. 3) For some scripts people have figured out how to show the size of each image as a small caption in the top left corner of the thumbnail image. So you don't have to read the whole thread like I did, here's a list of the working scripts not included in the original download. As of 1/12/2007 (post #286 in the original thread).
Discogs_WithSizeOverlay.txt ( 2.22K )
Number of downloads: 1918
Amazon_WithSizeOverlay.txt ( 1.75K )
Number of downloads: 1660
Google_WithSizeOverlay.txt ( 1.88K )
Number of downloads: 1540Once downloaded, change the extension from .txt to .boo and put in the scripts folder of coverdownloader. Also, here are some scripts written and hosted by AlexVallat. Simply download to your script folder. Coveralia <--Large, high quality covers. CoverIsland Yes24 CD Universe Cover-Paradies (requires hacks.boo) Discogs_NoSizeOverlay NOTE: It appears iTunes support will never be available for albums released after October 3, 2006 as Apple has encoded the images to make them usable only from iTunes itself. For albums before this date the ability to download is hit or miss. See here for more details. TIP: If you prefer one service over the other, rename the files correspondingly. For example I like Discogs and then Amazon (I don't actually use the others). Renaming the files like this... "1) Discogs.boo" "2) Amazon.boo" ...puts the CoverDownloader search results in the order I prefer. Hopefully you find this post helpful. Cheers! I haven't paid attention to cover art before. If I wanted to get it now, are any of these programs capable of very quickly downloading hundreds of albums worth without lots of manual intervention using my (meticulously entered) tags? Or is it a fairly involved process?

Cover-Paradies was a little tricky, because the CoverDownloader app can't seem to download streams of unknown length, and the full size images from Cover-Paradies are, unfortunately, served as unknown length. I've hacked together a work-around for this, though. Enjoy! cover-paradies.boo (requires hacks.boo too) Alex |

From everything I saw from their webpage sources, they actually use the same images as buy.com. Same goes for that one...I haven't been able to get it to work at all. |

Does anybody know if this plugin can be turned into an "artists pictures" downloader?
And a "chords or score" one? And a "bios" one? And a ...... Thanks. (By the way: does anybody know any smart app able to show a music score dynamically - sort of lyrics plugins do - synced with the music or just at a given speed?) Thanks. |

Anyone else having problems with the Coveralia script now? I can't get any results, even though a true search on their page provides results.

Fantastic work on all those scripts! Thanks for compiling a short list of working ones, makes it a whole lot easier for many new users.
Now to boot old and non-functioning scripts and download shiny new and improved versions. |

coveralia.boo updated. Should work again now.
Previous post seems to have gone missing, so: coverisland.boo is also updated and should be working again. Someone asked for a DVD covers script for cover island. I don't generally do DVD covers, but as CoverIsland is such a nightmare, a modification of the script for DVDs seemed like a good idea: coverislandDVD.boo |
