Several days ago I started using Media Library. I added one directory, which has several subdirectories. One of them is hidden. From my obserwation I can say that the hidden subdirectory wasn't included in index - when I searched Album List for files that were placed inside that subdirectory I got no results. Is this proper observation? Are hidden subdirectories omitted from indexing?

Thanks for answer. Is there anything I can do to change this behaviour? I haven't found any setting connected with this, but maybe some additional component which helps managing library? To eliminate any confusions - I'm not looking for any Media Library browser/viewer. I don't use any ML view in my current GUI layout and I don't need it - I use ML only for search puprposes and I got my keyboard shortcut for soing this. But if some of such components has an option to INCLUDE hidden folders in indexing maybe I could use it.

I have to ask a question - why is the folder hidden? I cannot think of a reason to hide music folders. You can use ATTRIB from the command prompt recursively or many other methods to make folders unhidden.

Dear Midiman - I haven't asked how to unhide directories, I asked how include hidden ones in ML. I know how to unhide them, and I don't even have to use command prompt. But I don't want to. They should stay hidden. For example to prevent from entering them via FTP - server has been set to not show hidden directories and don't allow to ener them.
So once again, my question is: "is there a foobar component that helps managing Media Library, that has additionally an option to include hidden directories in ML?" |

Frontends to the library can only get what the core gives them; they cannot command it to behave differently.

OK, thanks. So I think it might be a good option to add some checkbox in ML configuration page: "include hidden files & directories".

Have you thought about running the FTP server under a different user account and using access control lists to manage the prevent if from accessing selected parts of your music collection? I'm just asking because to me this would seem to be an already available solution to your problem (as far as you have told us about it).

You can add this hidden folder to your media library.

@foosion - nice hint! thanks
@lvcql - I know, I tried to add it separately and it works. Of course it will be much easier if I didn't have to do this. But it's not a big problem. |
