Australian DMCA under US-Aus FTA

thought some people here might be interested in this one...

maybe it should be moved to news submissions?  not sure if it's as relevant for HA as it is for doom9 (there's a few Skips on each forum really, so i guess it's relevant)

This has been known for a while, but it doesn't matter, the Free Trade Agreement (it isn't really a Free Trade Agreement) won't get passed anyway.

BTW, if this affects anybody, move in with Roberto.

i wish i could be so sure... money speaks loudly.  our only hope is the Green senators.

and yes... on Free Trade:  it's a matter of equilibrium in a free environment.  a country that produces the most will quite obviously benefit the most.  the resources aren't there in a smaller market player to compete with a big market player.  that's the ENTIRE reason tarriffs were thought up - to protect local interests against hugely powerful market forces.

ivo:  i'll try to fight it.  even if the FTA doesn't pass, i suspect IP laws are going that way anyway.  of course, the IP issue is nothing compared to what the rest of the agreement will do to my country (and culture), so that must be considered.

i don't see importance in this,honestly.....
once they start knocking on the doors of people like you and me(given that you're not selling pirated stuff etc.) it's time to declare war on state....

but...they won't....(fascism never again)

dunno about other aspects of this (concerning aus),but i think there's nothing to fear of....

hmmm...  i wish i was that optimistic.  in the lead up to WWII, american policy-makers had a lot of respect for the regime of Mussolini in Italy.  it's only when their political interests changed and the war began that the US stopped supporting that particular dictator.

if you can find it, read "hegemony or survival" by Noam Chomsky.  it's scary as hell, but worth reading.
