removing account

Hey,

Is it possible for an administrator to delete my account?
I never really used it and I don't want to have my accounts hangin' around on the internet while barely used.

Kind regards,
Sam

We don't delete accounts, sorry.  If you're concerned that people may see that you have an account here, you probably shouldn't have posted.

EDIT: Removed line about removing this thread.  Not only will we not delete accounts, we will not delete all your posts upon request either.  To anyone who would be interested in making such a request you are out of luck.

Just out of curiosity, why not? Are the user posts deleted if the account is deleted? I've many times tried to remove accounts from various places and I've noticed that rarely you can do it yourself.. but fortunately it has been done always after asking (though sometimes you got to force the issue).. why not here? Is it wise to let not used accounts to accumulate? I'm sure that you are aware that the user can "trash" the account info if you won't remove it.. at least that's my final option if the account stays. After that, what it is good for?

This particular forum software allows for the complete removal of all threads and posts connected to a specific account if it were to be deleted, but it also allows the option for them to remain as well (I believe it appends a suffix to the resultant deleted user's name, should they have the option set for it). The only thing I could think of that would be problematic in this scenario would be if someone (moderation or otherwise) wanted or needed to search all posts by the user, making it a big headache to do so if their account was deleted.

While I do agree with this, I understand a few of the concerns. One is the good security principle to eliminate anything that's useless and possibly malicious if abused. I for one do not trust a www forum not to be hackable and account info stolen. (Well I behave a bit like I trust, but it is rather that I am accepting the risk.)

Since moderators can block access to accounts permanently (right?), then one could of course consider doing so upon user's request, but I am certainly not confident that this will solve any more security-related issues than it creates.

I don't see why this thread was resurrected, but nothing has changed and until the administration team decides otherwise, nothing will change.

Until an administrator or another moderator decides to re-open this discussion it will now close.
