3.90 stable and alt extreme ?

Hi,

what has changed to exrteme ?

Suddenly in Lame 3.90 stable the bitrate is reduced a lot, eg. about 30 kbit/s.

My favourite test sample I test all new versions with, chnaged from average 280 to 253 kbit/s ??

And from one of the latest alphas with about 90% stereo frames, now with stable there are only 44% stereo frames left.

Use of short blocks is the same, 97%.

I made a similar experience using --alt-preset standard.

This was part of the improvements made in rev9a.  rev9a, rev10 and 3.90 stable should produce identical results on this clip.

These modifications where made to produce a more stable bitrate of 256kbps, but there were also other internal modifications which increased quality for these situations as well.  It was basically a matter of using the bits in a more efficient manner.

I'm can't really comment on this without more details.

Nothing should be different from rev10.

Don't worry, Dibrom!
My latest big test was with rev8. So my 'experience' posted above was 3.90 stable compared to rev8.
