New Pearl Jam album mixing/mastering

So I've been listening to the new Pearl Jam album a lot in the past few days - it's a great return to form.

Anyway it was pointed out to me that the bass is mixed low, compared to their previous albums. The album has a very high volume, but doesn't clip due to its reduced bass level.

So the question is: Do you think lowering the bass and upping the overall volume is the lesser of two evils when compared to clipping?

The primary problem with compression IMHO is not clipping but loss of dynamics - it simply sounds "loaded" and annoying. Clipping is a secondary(but still important) issue.
I am arrogant and I can afford it because I deliver.

So not only does it have less dynamic range, it now sounds trebly as well? I haven't listened, but it's not making a good impression on me
