Why is the total match count, e.g. in the 1st log, track 1, (90) so much bigger than the combined offsets count (42)? In 3 months the total count has risen with 10 matches but the combined offsets count only with 5? (excluding the last track which has risen only with 9 and 4 matches respectively) 1. The other offset pressings exist outside of the offset test range. 2. The other offset pressings track hashes don't match your track hashes. 3. The other offset pressings are for a different audio disc. |

1. ?
2. Shouldn't it then show "No matches"? 3. Isn't it then under another disc ID? |

1. ? 2. Shouldn't it then show "No matches"? 3. Isn't it then under another disc ID? There are 5 elements (different offsets) in the Accuraterip record for that disc Element 1, Track 1 has 45 matching for hash 161d41cf Element 2, Track 1 has 33 matching for hash c336ac1e Element 3, Track 1 has 14 matching for hash 84377365 Element 4, Track 1 has 8 matching for hash 46105b32 Element 5, Track 1 has 0 matching From what you posted you match #2 and #3. I assume the tool you are using is Cuetools? 1. I don't know what offset range Cuetools uses however if the offset for a record element can not be determined then the files can't be checked against that part of the data. 2. I don't know, ask the Cuetools developer. 3. It is possible that 2 or more discs (different artists and albums) can have the same disc ID. The complex example has 18 record elements. If I counted correctly only 16 are listed. There are a number of reasons why this may be displayed as it is. I would need the files to determine exactly why. |

Using CUETools yes. Where do you get your results?
Anyways, I thought that there would be an easy answer, this is far too complicated and odd* for my poor brain (and unfortunately I don't have time nor interest to start studying this thoroughly). * especially the "It is possible that 2 or more discs (different artists and albums) can have the same disc ID" part. The complex example is from Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand (2004) album.. in case you got it and want to check that also. |

It's also possible (probably more likely) for there to be different PCM data for a different pressing of the same title with the exact same TOC, rather than an entirely different title with the exact same TOC. Could be a disc ID collision as well, though I don't know how likely it is for there to be disc ID collisions with AR (different layouts returning identical IDs).
Different PCM data could be do to a change in volume or some other kind of editing. It could even be from copies created using burrrn where RG was applied which were subsequently ripped with submissions going to the AR database (just an example). Ok, thanks for the answers. More mystery to AR. Maybe it's one of the things you have mentioned, was just odd that ~50% of matches were not listed. Initially I thought that there might be something wrong with AR DB or CUETools regarding that total count oddness.

It's not odd at all, especially not for popular releases or ones that have been out for a while.
I believe the bulk of the reason is #1 in post #2, FWIW. This post has been edited by greynol: Dec 31 2009, 18:37 -------------------- Everything sounds the same until it is proven otherwise.

Ok, do you think that the following example too fall on that "offset pressings exist outside of the offset test range" reason too?

Also there seems to be missing 1+ records where the rest of the matches are. Maybe this whole thing is NOT odd to people that fully understand (or had the time and interest to learn) what's going on, the regular end user IMHO is going to be confused and find this whole AR stuff a bit odd and too complicated. And that's the target audience, right? Not the techno savvy users/devs. Personally I see AR as very useful I thank for making it, but I'm constantly finding odd and confusing things about it. Yeah yeah, just use it and be grateful what you got, right? Well, not quite, if everybody would follow that, there would not be any feedback.. and sometimes (not necessarily this topic) feedback is what makes the app/service progress. Rambling, my 2c's. Gregory S. Chudov, do you have any insights to this topic? Thanks. |

Yes, I think the rest of the data is most likely outside of the range that CUETools uses. Going over a previous conversation that was had regarding the subject I found this:
http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....st&p=592152 It seems that your questions/concerns are misdirected at AR when they should really be aimed at CUETools. -------------------- Everything sounds the same until it is proven otherwise.

QUOTE It seems that your questions/concerns are misdirected at AR when they should really be aimed at CUETools. I realized that too earlier.. hence the pretty direct "why isn't that in CUETools log?" question and a request for Gregory to chime in if he wants to. |

I checked my rip of Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand and the first one you posted (Soundgarden A sides). The Franz Ferdinand record has a number of low rip count entities that among other anomalies, probably exist as some were made from "User" created versions of this disc. I got the same results as you with the Soundgarden disc. I ran the tracks up to an offset range of +/- 72,000 samples with no match for any of the offsets in record element 1 or 4. Same disc ID for 2 different (artist/album) discs is possible however rare so "2. The other offset pressings track hashes don't match your track hashes." is most likely. |

Most questions have been already answered, so i can only add two things: offset range for cuetools is +/- 5 frames, i.e. 5*588-1=2939 samples. One of the reasons for this is that this is exactly how many samples are skipped by AccurateRip in the start/end of the CD, so when the first track doesn't begin with silence, CRCs won't match a pressing with offset larger than that. If you want to check a wider range anyway, you can try entering offset 5878, so cuetools will check range from 5878-2939(=2939) to 5878+2939(=8817), or -5878 to check range -8817..-2939.

Thanks Gregory for participating. I'm not very good with the technicalities of this thing but it seems that widening the offset range would not make a difference.
