I want to mix some stereo mp3's to mono to listen with headphones because I only have hearing in one ear. I tried Audacity and Goldwave, and I see they produce different results. Can anyone shed some light on which produces the better mix? Here are screenshots of a couple of files I converted:
Screenshots Or if you know of another free program that does a good job, please let me know. |

Foobar2000 has a built-in DSP filter called 'Downmix channels to mono'. You can keep the MP3s as they are.

Esp. for 60s stuff (seeing that the example track is) you might want to tailor the mix (i.e. choose the percentage of left and right channels to sum) on a track-by-track basis. Any DAW should allow this, and the better mix is the one that sounds better to you.
