Hey there,
I was using my Plextor external USB drive to rip "Classical Hits" with EAC yesterday when something weird happened. The rip seemed to go fine (just like most of my rips do), but when I checked the log for AccurateRip I noticed that the last track couldn't be verified as accurate. What was strange was the track quality was 100% and test / copy CRCs matched. Another thing: if you notice, it's AR v2 and not AR v1 like the rest of the CD. Any ideas why this could have happened? Thanks in advance. CODE Exact Audio Copy V1.0 beta 3 from 29. August 2011

There can be many reasons.
One possible reason: This is last track and your drive can "overread". Most of drives can't overread. So maybe your rip is even more "accurate" than results in database. |

So you think the rip is bad then?

So you think the rip is bad then? On the contrary, I think your rip is probably good and the hashes in the database for your specific pressing may be from errant rips that are consistent by virtue of a bug (read more below). Still, rip the tracks as lossless and let CUETools have a look at them. It may reduce the amount of blind speculation. Most of drives can't overread. So maybe your rip is even more "accurate" than results in database. AR ignores the last five frames of the last track, so this shouldn't be an issue. That said, there are situations where EAC will repeat the last 1176 samples of non-null data (where the last non-null sample is the 1176th sample of the set, regardless of whether it falls on a frame boundary) when a drive that is configured as not being able to overread and those repeated samples may fall before the final five frames of the track, affecting the AR hash. Note this may explain some (most?) of Spoon's findings which he is attributing as being "more difficult to rip". These instances have to do with a bug in EAC; they have nothing to do with the disc being "difficult to rip". To my knowledge there is no mechanism in AR to catch this problem. Perhaps before checking a lossless version against CUETools, I'd rip the last track again with overreading disabled and see what AR says. If it says the tracks are accurate then I'd say keep the ones done with the setting enabled. Personally I'd also compare lossless versions of each to see the differences for myself and to verify my suspicion about the submissions in the AR database being consistent errors due to defective software, but that's just me.
