Hi!
I have torrent-downloaded old Genesis album "Selling England by The Pound". Actually, I downloaded from two different torrents - both versions are FLAC compressed. Audibly - both sound similar - very good audio quality. Both versions share same total audio playtime and have the same number of tracks. But one version is 319.3 MB while the other one... 1913.3 MB !!! Can anybody here explain me what can be the nature of such an enormous difference? Thanks ahead! |

The smaller one is most likely 16 bit / 44.1 kHz, stereo (2 channels), while the larger one is probably 24 bit / 96 kHz, possibly surround sound (6 channels).

BTW - how to tell what format are FLAC-encoded data?
How to tell it's 16 or 24 bit, plain stereo or surround? |

Check out the properties of the songs in foobar2000 or whatever player you're using. Or, in a terminal:
CODE metaflac --show-sample-rate --show-channels --show-bps file.flac
-------------------- caudec -c lossyTAK -q S *.flac
