rarewares.org backup

Just for the record, and as I haven't seen any mention to it yet here on HA, rjamorim's (what ever happened to him?) rarewares.org's audio software depository has, at least for the moment, a new home in the shape of a backup website:

http://www.john1205.webspace.virginmedia.com/

Enjoy!

edit:rarewares.org with 's'.
In case a moderator hasn't deleted this as totally useless, would he please kindly change the typo on the title also?
Thanks!

With the edition of your previous post, now I know what you mean.

I'd always thought webarchive didn't, erm, 'archive' the downloadable files too. You mean all of them are there?

Well, I didn't even know it had been taken down... Thanks!

I meant "should we download all of it as well? Is it going to close for ever?". Web archive is good enough for me ATM.

I'd always thought webarchive didn't, erm, 'archive' the downloadable files too. You mean all of them are there?

Yep. For every website, some website has missing files but considering they are using 10PB of space they can afford mistakes or few KB/MB

I'll try to find out what's happened here! In the meantime, my current backup is not up-to-date, but I'll try to make it so over the next few hours.

Yep. For every website

For once, not for r3mix.net.
I don't think anything I've ever looked for has been properly archived on archive.org.

Plenty of sites have robots.txt files that tell it to ignore them, but even beyond that its crawling is often hopelessly patchy.

If you're lucky in this case, that's great, but anyone who assumes that archive.org is just archiving the whole internet is in for a nasty shock. Most of the "early" internet has gone forever. Internet forums are particularly poorly preserved.

Cheers,
David.

My backup of Rarewares is now more or less up-to-date. I have emailed Roberto to try to ascertain the status of Rarewares and as soon as I have any news, I'll post it.

Just for the record, logistics can be a little difficult sometimes as I'm in the UK, Roberto is in southern Brazil and Rarewares is hosted in  the U.S.A.

Roberto is 'on the case'.  Hope to have some news soon.

Roberto is 'on the case'.

As much as many of us appreciate all the effort both you and Roberto have been putting into this project, please don't take the following question personally but:

Is he so busy to the point where he needs to be represented via a spokesperson while still holding a fully-functional HA membership?

Quite simply, he owns the domain name, but his life has moved in other directions and, as such, does not often browse HA. It's reasonable question, but he's hardly the first long time member of HA to take a long-term sabbatical!

Whatever that may be! I'm not really quite sure what your point is? He's a member, he's not been around for a while, rarewares.org is his domain name, what's the problem? He contributes, what's your contribution apart from criticism?

He contributes, what's your contribution apart from criticism?

The fact one is not a developer like yourself, doesn't deem one as useless as you may imply (think of them as the "enthusiast" bit of this community's motto):
Just to illustrate that, and in this particular thread having at least one poster thanking me for calling their attention to this issue, doesn't turn it into a "contribution" of sorts!?

Criticism!?
What criticism if, in your own words, "It's [sic] reasonable question"?
Whatever that may be!

what's the problem?

I (probably along with other members) had already accepted your answer as, well, an answer. Full stop.

Why changing the tone to such aggressiveness??

"Why so serious son?"

People stop visiting fora. News: This happens a lot. I guess more often than you currently think! There might not even be a real reason in most cases. People’s interests and priorities change. They might stop visiting for those reasons, for some other reason, or simply because they forgot for a while and inertia did the rest. The internet is not the limit of existence. Now, can you stop disputing these general truisms and the specifics of rjamorim’s not visiting any more?

But as one last thing, he, or anyone else, doesn’t owe you or anyone else anything, and they don’t need to be policed for their absence.

Apologies; aggressiveness what not the intention. I guess I was somewhat over-sensitive to the suggestion that there was fault in no longer being a regular visitor/contributor to this forum.

As said, contributions come in many forms.

Anyway, sadly, we are still offline and I have no further news. I will update here just as soon as I know anything.

It looks like the owner of the domain name forgot to renew it

It's a reasonable reaction to what I have quoted below. Those words can easily be interpreted as confrontational, rather aggressive and unfriendly — disclaimer notwithstanding:
Is he so busy to the point where he needs to be represented via a spokesperson while still holding a fully-functional HA membership?
