Hi,
for some time I have had problems accessing freedb with Plextools professional (2.02). It works fine with EAC, CDex and MP3Tag, but with Plextools I always get the error message: Trying to connect, please wait...Connected Retrieving album information... 500 Command syntax error: incorrect number of arguments. This really drives me crazy, as it used to work just like my other programs that connect to freedb. I did not change the settings of Plextools, it just stopped working. I checked the freedb settings in Plextools, and they are the same as in the other programs mentioned - weird! Any suggestions for solving this problem are welcome! I would suggest updating to a newer PlexTools Pro. build.
Version 2.18 is the latest. PlexTools - Download page. |

QUOTE (Tec9SD @ Dec 6 2004, 01:51 PM) I would suggest updating to a newer PlexTools Pro. build. Version 2.18 is the latest. PlexTools - Download page. Do they work with the Plextor Premium and not only with DVD burners? I tried to upgrade some months ago to Plextools Pro 2.16, but they were unusable with my Plextor Premium - it seemed as if they didn't recognize my drive at all. I had to delete them and reinstall V2.02 (came with my Plextor Premium) and everything worked well as before (except freedb, of course, which also didn't work for some time before my update trial). Strange... -------------------- Proverb for Paranoids: "If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don't have to worry about answers."

sTisTi, how do you access freedb: via right-clicking the CD and and doing Retrieve CD from freedb or via a button in AudioCD Player, DAE or CD/DVD Copy? I ran into the same problem a few times; didn't not look closely into it though.
Does it happen with all CDs or just one particular? Can you list your settings under Preferences -> freedb? If you are planning to update to a recent version of PlexTools Pro, be advised of the problems with CD/DVD Copy and audio CDs as detailed in these threads on CDFreaks: PlexTools Pro 2.16, "Increased Write Performance Of AudioCD Maker" My A@#! Thanks, Never_Again, for your reply.
I try to access freedb with the "Retrieve" button in the DAE screen. It worked flawlessly this way until about January, then stopped working for all CDs. Then I tried EAC and stayed with it so far, but would like to use Plextools more as they are faster and at least as secure as EAC. I'll have to check my settings under freedb-preferences when I return home, but I've already compared them to the settings in EAC, CDex and MP3Tag and they were the same. Anyway, I've just looked at the Plextools version history, and the version 2.02a just after mine (V2.02) lists this: "Bug Fix: FreeDB cannot retrieve information from the server." So it seems to be a bug in my version. Strange, however, that it worked nevertheless until the begining of this year. Does your Plextor Premium work with the latest versions? Mine was not recognized with PTP 2.16. Do you happen to know where to find older versions of Plextools? On the Plextools page, there's only V2.18. The threads you mentioned seem to indicate that V2.12 is the safest choice at the moment. I'd even be satisfied with V.2.02a, as I only use PT for C1/C2 check and safe DAE, and these work fine even with my old version.
