Mini CD Player?

Does anyone know of a mini CD player like the I-River Slim-X? I love the Slim-X, but its just too big. Even with APS, I can fit 25+ songs on a mini CD (40+ at 128) that fits in a shirt pocket.

Are there any good players that are not much bigger than the CD, and are packed with features? (as stated, a Slim-X for 3" CDs would be PERFECT).

And I know there are mini-Cd players. But all the ones I've seen (like the Phillips) are hardly small and slim. They are BULKY.

Check Philips Expanium EXP-401.
or consider getting this : Sony NW-MS70D (or this).

I DO appreciate the suggestions. My opinions only - feel free to disagree.

ATRAC3 sucks. Why Sony (who has otherwise great products) insists on this format is beyond me. It prevents many from even considering their products.

The Philips player you linked is cheap and bulky. I had one and took it back after 3 days.

Any other players out there worth buying?

Get an iRiver iFP (memory based one then? The new series 390 has come out... Or go to www.cnet.com and check others... I think there are no nice MP3 players yet  You can just dream about them (like a Blu-Ray mini DVD MP4 player). If you didn't like Expanium I don't think you could find any other...

You are probably right. I love my IPOD, but the gym is alittle hard on it. A nice mini-CD player where I can switch CDs based on my mood would be cool. Oh well. I'll keep waiting.

Flash players are nice, but unless standing next to your PC, you are stuck with the 20 songs on the player.

Check this thread. I went through that process and saw that ATRAC, apart from quality considerations, is not the way to go. Because either you need to rip and encode using Sony's SonicStage crap which you cannot trust or you need to transcode your MP3 files OR you can rip with EAC and convert your WAV files to ATRAC (which I was planning to do) but then you cannot keep the tags or the label information and it's so much of an hassle! In any way it does not sound like a perfect alternative (but that player itself is an amazing gadget).

Maybe the Imation RipGO! would be along the lines of what you're looking for.

USB external mini-CDRW drive that plays back MP3/WMA/WAV files, found at CompUSA yesterday, in-store price of $49.99.

Here's a link to a review of it:

http://www.tomshardware.com/mobile/2002013...minicdr-02.html

I've been playing with mine and recording stuff to it since I bought it under 24 hours ago.  It's a fantastic bargain for the price and they also carry 210MB CDR 10 packs for $9.  It's hard to beat this deal so maybe if you get the chance look in on it.

NOTE: This offer at the price of $49.99 is only in the B&M (Brick & Mortar) retail stores, not on the CompUSA website nor by placing an order on the toll free order line.

I think it's a pricing error but I took advantage of it anyway (people tell me they have seen this unit for less after rebates though).

Good luck

Another NOTE: Imation no longer makes or supports these devices so if you buy it you're screwed for support.  I paid $5 to get the protection plan from CompUSA so if it croaks in the next year they'll replace it with something else most likely.

OMG! That thing consumes 700mAh of current! How long does your battery last?

Ezra2323, may I recommend the following website, which has pics/specs/reviews on almost every 8cm player ever made. Unfortunately, no company has made the perfect 8cm player....one that is really small, has high-quality sound and construction, and gets good battery life (15hrs+). If only iRiver would make something called a SmallEx ™    One word of warning about 8cm players from personal experience....DO NOT buy the Memorex MCD8081 Mini-CD MP3 player (~50 dollars on Amazon.com). The LCD screens have a habit of going dead for no reason, like mine did. Of course, it happened on the 32nd day I had it, so Amazon wouldn't refund my $$. Plus, it inserts a 4-second gap between tracks, which really screws up my Pink Floyd stuff

(Edited for clarity).
