I read that when recording Impulse responses I have to pad the beginning of the file (before the click) with zeros because a lot of the programs can mess it up and start recording a few frames after the click.
Is that true? |

When recording the impulse response of something, you will always have silence before hand unless you've somehow synchronized the impulse and DAC down to the microsecond.

I was told this: QUOTE When the click happens, the first sample should be at full loudness, but most plugins mess this up so some zero padding is needed at the beginning, which is to be removed later. Is that outdated? |

What you've been told is true: start of the playback/recording is a place with least reliable streaming, prone to drop-outs or complete skipping (depending on the playback device and software).
