As stated here, I've tested my drives with the DAE quality test from the EAC homepage.
Further explanations about the test procedure can be found here, so here are the facts about the Samsung SH-182D: Drive: Samsung SH-182D Firmware:: SB06 Test at full speed ("Actual" speed setting in EAC) Image http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....ost&id=4296 DAE log Errors total Num : 1965 Errors (Loudness) Num : 199 - Avg : -74.5 dB(A) - Max : -59.7 dB(A) Error Muting Num : 0 - Avg : 0.0 Samples - Max : 0 Samples Skips Num : 0 - Avg : 0.0 Samples - Max : 0 Samples Total Test Result : 90.4 points (of 100.0 maximum) EAC log CODE EAC extraction logfile from 23. Of all my drives I've tested so far, the SH-182D got the best DAE results (according to the "Total Test Result" of the DAE log). The only strange thing is that it didn't slow down, but ripped with highest speed, even when selecting 4x in EAC. That is why the results of actual/4x do not differ much. Another "proof" of Samsung drives are very good at DAE (well, "proof" only as far as you believe in these DAE test procedure). |

About the speed: you can use cd bremse to force it to slow down. It didn't matter much with my samsung though. Speed seems to make no difference.
