disappointment!! Not only is the mixer program obscure as hell, which I could get over, the stupid card nees to be re-programmed every time the digital audio you are playing changes in sample rate mad.gif
I have a bunch of audio files on my PC that I listen to through Winamp, some are 44.1khz WAVs, some are 96khz FLACS. I have to go into the patchmix program and change the sample rate of the card every time the song sample rate changes - boo!!!! Even my mobo sound chip didn't require that. On the plus side, it does do a decent job of encoding my vinyl. But the hassle of changing the sample rates manually far outweighs this.I am returning this POS and getting something that can change resampling rates on the fly.

Any suggestions?

Only to spend more time on a thread title instead of a complaining post - if your goal is assistance.

Wow, I have two onboard sound solutions by realtek and neither of them changes the sample rate on the fly, they just resample the incoming material to the sample rate they are using at that moment. ^^ The on-the-fly-rate-change would be quite nice feature when listening to music, wouldn't need to use the resampler in foobar. :F

Edit: Typos, as always

Let Winamp output 96kHz only, i.e. upsample everything below.

OK - that sounds like a great idea. How do I get Winamp to do this? I have used Winamp fairly extensively and haven't seen where I set this. I have used multiple output plugins (Kernel streaming. ASIO, direst sound, etc).

Wa11U - that's what I meant - the onboard audio chip resamples everything to 96khz. The E-MU 0404 does not do this. You have to set the sample rate manually every time the source material sample rate changes.

Sorry for the "smart***" subject tiitle, I just really need some help.

rebos123, I hope you don't mind me using this thread to try to know others experience with the EMU 0404 USB. I bought one a year ago and what you describe is true and I already got used to it. The thing that bothers me most is that I can't output 24 bit depth unless I'm using ASIO (which has its disadvantages). I only noticed 2/3 months ago when I installed it in a computer with Vista x64. But then I went to check in the PC with Vista x86 it used to be connected to and I found the same happening there. I know for a fact that when I installed it the first time I could select 24 bit depth output without resorting to ASIO.

I wrote to EMU support but the only help I got was a suggestion to reinstall the drivers, which I already had done on both computers. I'm using the latest drivers. Does anyone know if this is normal behavior and/or how to fix it?

thanks for the hints/suggestions. I found out that there is a reworked direct sound output plugin that resamples everything to 96khz.

OK, got the impression that your integrated soundcard somehow switched the samplerate on the fly.

well after another week or to with the E-MU I have to take back everything I said negatively about it. The card really sounds good on my system. I am using it to output digital stream to a DAC and as an input device for my vinyl and I must say that it is much better sounding than the digital audio chip on my ASUS mboard.
Also the packaged software that came with the card is nice too. I like the features that the Wavelab lite provides.
