Ones where each track has a different artist, but the overall mix is made by one guy, so Various Artists doesn't work. I haven't found a good way to do this.

why don't you insert title and artist (performer) in the corresponding fields plus maybe 'DJ xxx mix'.
i.e. title: moohtadu (DJ xxx mix) artist: MoohMen album: DJ xxx Mix 2010 or you could eat a banana. -------------------- Nothing but a Heartache - Since I found my Baby ;)

i either use album as artist, and year as album, and then tracks, or genre as artist, and album as album with (by dj), and titles

Why can't you use Various Artists? That's what I do and I have no problems. Take a look at my screenshot...

I generally put the DJ's name for "artist", and then have "artist-title" of the individual track in the Title field.
So, given Bl4h's example (which is Fabriclive 16, mixed by Adam Freeland): Artist: Adam Freeland Album: Fabriclive 16 Track1: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Love Burns resulting filename: 01. Adam Freeland _ Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Love Burns.mp3 etc. And by the way, Fabriclive 16 is quality, as are most of the Fabric/Fabriclive discs |

i never understood/liked the "V.A." thing, it means nothing for me, is dificult to search. when you have compilations, you usually search for its name, or the genre, or thats what i do. i never think, "oh, lets find some VA cds". i either think, "lets find some reggaeton cds", or, "lets find cafe del mar".

Why don't u use a custom tag-field "Album Artist"? It's easy to insert in foobar and easy to create a sort string that recognizes this fields when they are there.
Tribute-Albums get the "Album Artist" they belong to, samplers are named "Various" and soundtracks get "OST". But each track gets the performing artists name. |

I tag the person that made the mix under the "Composer" field, and I have it checked as a Compilation in iTunes. I keep the artist and title the same as they are listed on the track listing for the mix. So if you use an iPod, and have a lot of mixes, you can find what you're looking for by just browsing Compilations (on the 'newer' iPod models as long as you turn "Compilations" on), and/or through Composers (on just about every iPod model). You can set up iTunes the same way.
e.g. Album: 10 Years Of Hardcore Vol. 1 CD1 Composer: Scott Brown Track: 01/24 Artist: Interstate Track: Lost Generation It works out great if you use an iPod as your DAP, otherwise the "Album Artist" solution may work out better. |

I wish Album Artist metadata would be more commonly used. This is exactly what it's needed for.
http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?ti...ds#ALBUM_ARTIST This is so much better than iTunes "compilation" flag. Oddly, Microsoft has a clue: Windows Media Player 10 & Windows Media Center uses and tags "Album Artist" in addition to "Artist" for MP3 and WMA. Now only if other mainstream media libraries/players did... |

genre - [mixed by %DjArtist%] %album% - %year%\%trackartist% - %trackname%
i rip file + cue and cut afterworks, so i have no hiccups. %tracknumber% is within the id3tags. oh and i dont tag %dj% and %artist% to the artist tags. its within the directory structure. the dj's part is to compile or acting live... not creating the track. VA/OST - Albumname (Mixed by DJ-name)
I don't want to complicate things by throwing in the mixers name where it could screw up my sorting, so I just throw it in a parenthesis. This post has been edited by razer: Nov 23 2005, 11:33 |
