Hi everyone,
I know it's not very polite to register here just to ask for votes, but in case you care about FLAC, you may be interested. The famous audio streaming and playback app Spotify refuses to support FLAC claiming it's "still a relatively uncommon format". I don't know what's your opinion about Spotify, but given the impact it has on nowadays audio listeners, it would be great that FLAC format was able to be played. It's not my petition indeed, I'm just one of the supporters, but I think it's important to spread the word and certainly it needs some push from people who don't know its existence: http://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotify-Id...CK/idi-p/124168 Of course you'll need to register there, but it's not big deal. Thanks in advance and sorry if I bothered you, Allvoxman. |

Does Spotify offer downloads? If yes, then I'm all for FLAC. For streaming however, it would be pointless (a waste of bandwidth).

Yeah they offer downloads as RonaldDumsfeld says, but not FLAC downloads, neither we ask for FLAC streaming but the point here is to make Spotify support FLAC playback. I mean, files you already have on your system, so that you can play them there, make playlists, etc. Thank you all for the replies!! |

QUOTE Are those transcoded from the Vorbis files they use for streaming? I've got no idea where or how they obtain their masters and would be pleased to find out myself. The tags report MP3 CBR 320kbps using LAME3.98r. I have always imagined the way it works at Spotify is that a work experience intern is sent down to the nearest filling station to pick up a job lot of those 5 CD for £10 mega deals then shoves them into a knackered old CD player connected to the office network and hopes for the best. Quality is often appalling but it's almost certainly the original source and/or transcription issues responsible rather than lossy Ogg Vorbis/MP3 per se. Like listening to a compilation of old vinyl K-Tel re-issues with fluff on the needle. Personally I wouldn't pay a premium for lossless files from Spotify but maybe that's because I mainly used to use it to listen to old nostalgia inducing 6Ts and 7Ts tunes and perhaps the available masters really are that bad by today's standards. |
