Recommendations For Hifi Hardware Needed ... ?

Hi everybody!

I'm about to buy some new stuff for my home HiFi-equipment. The Logitech 4.1 system which I own is really bad, so I wanna dedicate some money to new really good quality audio hardware.

What I own:
- computer with SoundBlaster Live! Player 1024 (Digital out) - i will buy the LiveDrive-Addon which enables Digital in via optical and sp/dif cable connection.

What i want:
- high quality CD player which preferably also plays back CD-R/CD-RW media (not a must). it must have digital-out connection.
- stereo amplifier (explicitly NO surround system whatsoever needed!) so all dolby crap can be omitted ... i want a really good quality stereo amplifier (at least 120W sine output) with the usual features ...
- the corresponding speakers, of course. which one do you recommend more? 2.1 System or 2(.0)? which manufacturer?

Thank you for your concern.
I'm not truly audiophile yet, but hope to become soon ;-)

Bye
MS

Hi,

as I'm pretty unexperienced in the HiFi-sector, i would be pleased if you could give me some more details: manufacturer, rough price estimate ... ?

Thanks a lot for your reply.

How about 2.1 PC speakers, any suggestions?

Only the best...

The above site has a price list, but you didn't mention a price range, or even what country you live in. I'd certainly recommend audio physic speakers and LFD amplifiers, but they might be considered too "minimalist" for some. Also, if you partner them with crap, then you'll hear crap! Don't even think about attaching your sound blaster - sorry.

Disclaimer: I maintain that website, and I use the equipment everyday at work (though these two facts are unrelated).

Cheers,
David.

I'm looking into building my own speakers this Christmas (somethign to do over break, and good christmas gift for myself). http://www.partsexpress.com/projectshowcase/so1.html
http://www.partsexpress.com/projectshowcas...dayton2way.html

One of those two are what I will probably end up building (being as they are cheaper, but still supposed to be nice). Quick side question: do you know how these compare to  some older, early 90's mid range (quality or price wise) Klipsch bookshelf speakers? If I build them correctly, should they sound similiar (I have a pair of Klipsch at my house, but want a pair of nice speakers for my dorm room, and I really like the Klipsch's we have).

So I'm more interested in the receiver/amplifer part of the question and will basically be doing the same thing (hook computer up to receiver via SB Live and optical out, and hook up DVD player via optical out).

B&W = Bowers and Wilkins  *largest* speaker manufacturer from Britain.

Price around$500 U.S.

As a further suggestion, you could pass on the CD player and use your computer. The only catch is that you have to mute the fans etc with soundproofing or the noise *will* start to bug you.

Try and concentrate on the amp and speakers. B&W 602's and a NAD c 350 amp or 370 would make a good mid priced core of a system.

The NAD amps are about 350 US and 600 US respectively.

Beware, the B&W speakers will not forgive an amp that has edgy highs.
