I am impressed with a 64kbit/s stereo encoding done with fastencc.exe!
It seems at least as good for voice at that bit rate to some LAmE presets in mono. Can fastencc.exe be set to encode to mono based upon one or both audio channels? I am interested in speech, and mono is fine for my purposes and I don't have any bits to watse on stereo. |

Try the following:
fastencc audio.wav audio.mp3 -dm -hq -br 64000 Warning: fastenc's high quality mode (-hq) is quite slow. You can use -mq (medium quality) instead , but quality will suffer. Normal quality mode (fast , no switch) NOT recommended , awful quality. The -dm switch means "downmix stereo to mono" A newer FhG encoder like those found in Cool Edit Pro 2 or Musicmatch Jukebox 7.x should be faster and deliver better quality than fastencc.exe (1.01 or 1.02) -------------------- No se porqué

Beware of Fastenc! http://www.ff123.net/ FhG stereo = LAME preset mono FhG is using intensity stereo, not a true stereo use something else like mp3PRO and OGG for 64 kbit/s QUOTE A newer FhG encoder like those found in Cool Edit Pro 2 or Musicmatch Jukebox 7.x should be faster and deliver better quality than fastencc.exe (1.01 or 1.02) Agree This post has been edited by kotrtim: Jan 15 2003, 09:07 |

A word of advice, though - for FastEncC in STEREO mode, always use medium quality as there is a stereo collapse bug.
For mono, high-quality is good. |
