VLC/WMP cannot gaplessly play back WAV/FLACs ripped by EAC

Hi found this forum while searching for answers!!!

I am wanting to rip all my CD's to FLAC. I am using EAC. Have found various guides and followed them. I have played with variables but just can't seem to get it right.

I don't care so much about burning to CD again! What is important is that I can playback the albums and experience them as they were. I.e. with the correct gaps!!

I have tried VLC and Media player. I am on XP. I have K-lite full pack installed. I have tried ripping to wav and FLAC. Still i get tiny gaps in albums that don't have any silent pauses.

I have 3 weeks left to rip about a 100 albums!!!!          So I need to get this sorted.

All help much appreciated.

Rather than the ripper/encoder, one might assume that a problem experienced in playback is caused by the player:
I have tried VLC and Media player.
There’s your problem. VLC cannot play gaplessly, and I don’t think WMP can either (or perhaps it can but K-Lite messes it up).

Never had a problem with WMP before, until I did a fresh install after changing motherboard. It would not let me add FLACs to the library like previously.

Do you have a suggestion to what I could use instead? or perhaps a fix for WMP?

Try foobar2000, Winamp or Boom Audio Player.
It's only audiophile if it's inconvenient.

These defiantly work? or are you just naming other media players randomly?

Those definitely work.
I'm actually quite surprised that VLC doesn't, I guess it's focused more on video playback...

Thanks

There was a time when I would have had faith with VLC but it has been too buggy for me the last few years. WMP was flawless until a new build forced a fresh install. I have a feeling I originally used FLAC for windows with WMP.

Anyway Foobar200o works!! Dam clumsy playlist shite...Not every one uses playlists!! How many clicks to play an album?!

Just so you know, Foobar is highly customizable. If you have some patience, you can configure the UI much to your likings. My advice is to stick with it, since it has a lot of cool functionality as well.

Yeah have played with it already, I work with Protools 5-6days a week so I had kinda exhausted Foobar in 10 minutes.

What a miss with WMP is browsing by album sleeves/art and then just clicking on the one I wanted to play and that was it, it played it. Does Foobar do this?

Also Boom is cool. Does everything I want bar browsing by album art.

Anyway I can start ripping my collection now. There might be about 10 albums that I will want copies on CD (CD audio). I presume I need to do a cue sheet for this?

No, a cue sheet is not necessary if you later want to burn a CD with the same audio, although you might find it useful in certain cases. There have been many threads about this, as well as about the relative merits of per-track vs. single-file rips; searching for these using the built-in Google search box will probably return more discussion than you ever wanted!

If you mean you used the IPB search rather than the Google one and received basically every topic ever in your search results, then simply use the Google one or prepend a + to each search term in the IPB box. (We should either fix this unintuitive ‘feature’ of IPB or make a pinned topic or something.)
