Which Mp3 encoder produces the best sound Fhg or Xing ?

Hi guys

I have often read that people believe that the FhG encoder produces better sounding Mp3's than Xing.

But lately I have been comparing some of my duplicate Mp3 files to get rid of them and am finding that the Xing (new) files seem to me to sound fuller and warmer than the same song using FhG (fastenc)

What do you think ? and why ?

Kind Regards

Digby

Theres about 800 versions of both of those encoders.  They range from good to horrible.  Without knowing the exact versions of each, its impossible to say.

This test gives some info for the semi-current versions of each:

You should evaluate the files using some form of blind listening test with something like Foobar2000.
