Hi

Some months ago, a band I played in ordered a (small) CD pressing.

The CDs we received were faulty. There was small glitches/clicks on all the tracks..
It seemed the CD players we tried it on was having a hard time reading it, because I remember it took much longer to skip between tracks than on other CDs.

The CD-R I sent in was straight from the mastering studio and it worked 100 % (no problems with glitches/skipping tracks).

Since we are going to press it again (at another plant, of course) I just want to know waht you think were the reason(s) for the faulty discs, so we can make sure it doesn't happen again..

What to you guys think?
(I'm guessing a problem with the glass master...?)

Thanks!

Magnus

To answer your question would be like telling from the coffee cup.
There are to many possibilities, starting with software, and ending with blanks. Of course having one of these cds would help to analyse, but even that's sure...

So the cd's were pressed and not burned ? Usually the glassmastering is done by professional operators (expensive equipment) and if there were problems with the supplied master (cdr) they should have reported that to you.

It's not recommended to play a cd-master yourself. How do you know the master worked 100% ? Many mastering studios include a second copy for approval, but the original should only be used for the glassmastering. If you can prove that the cd-factory didn't replicate your cdr correctly, they should redo the job for free IMO.
