[TOS #8] From: 2009 ripping/encoding general poll

Up until a few weeks ago I used exclusively MP3 Lame VBR Fast Standard. Then, to my shock/horror, after ripping my dad's LP of John Zaradin playing Concierto de Aranjuez, I sensed a difference between my compressed MP3s and the wave. I say sense because I didn't really objectively hear it but I "felt" it. My dad also did when I played him both versions. This has shook my confidence in MP3 so I'm moving on to FLAC which might be overkill but just to make sure I'm not losing anything. Why FLAC? Hardware support.

The intention of my post was to reply to the poll: I'm using FLAC as primary lossless codec. As a bonus, I gave my personal reason for using FLAC. As I said, it's not at all objective and I have no intention of ABXing anything. My feel is sufficient reason for myself and myself only. After all, feel is why I listen to Music. I have no pretense of convincing anyone of anything. I'm giving my actions as an example, just like everyone does in a poll. That is why I "bothered" with a post.

By the way, there's an interesting discussion about "feel" vs. objective ABX and the works here
