Probably would have turned out the same, yes.  Like I said earlier, don't underestimate the lack of intelligence of the average person, especially when it comes to audio.

It's not lack of intelligence; it's just ignorance. That thread shows a gross misunderstanding of what Replaygain does, and the OP itself is confusing at best.
Edit: what's scary is that they're supposed to be professionals…

I think some of the people in that thread are just trying to protect their jobs. Their unique skill is in making something louder while not making it sound quite as bad as the next person. Some of them might be so young that that's all they've ever known.

An end to the loudness war, and a flourishing of good sound, could mean the end of their careers.
