Context menu commands don't always appear when right-clicking fold Options

Hi,

When I right click an audio file or a folder which contains audio files, the context menu commands ("Play in foobar 2000" and "Enqueue in foobar 2000") sometimes do not appear.
Does anyone know the reason for that?

Yes, I experience that also from time to time. Sometimes both do not appear or only "Play in foobar2000". It seems to happen more often when right clicking a folder that only have lossy tracks (no lossless) or when right clicking a folder which don't have tracks in the folder but does have tracks in subfolders. I haven't found a common pattern to be able to conclude in which situations this happens.
Windows 7 up-to-date + foobar2000 v1.1.13. I remember this happening on all v1.1.x.

I have found mp3 folders where the described problem is persistent. These folders contain mp3 files and subfolders with more mp3 files.

I recall a few threads about this. Off the top of my head, try instructing Windows to “Optimize this folder for: General items” and/or demote WMP from the default player in Set Program Access and Defaults

I remembered some threads about this but possibly I didn't search hard enough.

Anyway, your hint “Optimize this folder for: General items” did the trick, it was set to Music. I applied "General items" at top and all subfolders and then Play and Enqueue in foobar2000 options appeared for all these folders.

But only one strange thing remains: when right clicking an mp3 file only "Play in foobar2000" option appears, all other file types show both Play and Enqueue in foobar2000 options (mp4 and FLAC). Strangely, in case of mp3 file at the usual position of "Enqueue in foobar2000" (right after "Play in foobar2000" option) "Add to Windows Media Player playlist" (or something similar called, I have spanish Windows GUI) is displayed. This "Add to WMP playlist" doesn't show up on any other file type or folder, just only when right clicking an mp3 file. I have never ran Windows Media Player on this Windows installation but i will remove it and see what happens.

Edit: Removing Windows Media Player through Windows 7 Control Panel followed by a reboot made appear the "Enqueue in foobar2000" on right click menu of mp3 files. Thx again!

Like you, I remember reading these suggestions a few times – but I couldn’t recall whether many people, and in what proportions, had posted confirmations of whether or not the methods had worked for them. So here’s a positive data-point or two, at least!
