foobar2000 replacing playlist files?, Moved from Support: intended+conventional behaviour of File͛/Open Options

Hi guys,
I asked about his particular problem on IRC channel but it didn't help me much to solve it. The problem is that the player keeps replacing my playlist content which is quite frustrating at times (especially if it has 100+ different songs in it).

The advice i got on the irc was to check the "always send new files to "Default playlist". However this feature seems to work only for the files selecter internally from Media Library for example. Each time I select a playlist, and then click file/open/... anything, the playlist content is completely removed and replaced by that one or more files I selected to play "externally", i.e. not fro media library or anything else inside the player.

I assume there must be a solution for this. Winamp didn't create a new playlist or even replace the old one, it just played the song. Where can i find that one or more checkboxes that will ensure this?

There may be other methods, as I am a user who has never used the FILE menu to play a track in foobar2000. Just took a look at it now. In my File menu, I have Add Files and Add Folder selections. Might be a better choice for you instead of open.

If, based on old habits, you do overwrite a playlist[keeping in mind you could also OPEN this files in another playlist], you can use the handy FILE > UNDO functionality and return to where you were.
And just a heads up, the behavior of one piece of software has zero to do with another and no one here cares

That's the hell what I want!:D How can I do that? It's kinda hard to remember to select Default playlist each time I'm gonna open a new file so it doesn't overwrite one of my precious playlists. And as I said - "always send files to Default playlist" doesn't work for externally opened files. I have some music files i want to listen to and don't want to store them in my Music file because they are my own music projects which are mostly in development stage. That's why I use the open file.

I understand, I put that up just for example. I do find that behavior "the normal one" however. Why on earth would one need to replace the files in his playlist just by opening new ones? Isn't that silly?

Aaaah maybe that second one. Looks promising:) ... To be honest I didn't try that one because I thought that "bring to front" relates to foobar window. I'm gonna try it.

I tried both. It seems it applies for the Windows explorer only. Try it yourself - if you play a music file through File/Open, it will replace your currently selected playlist's content with the file you chose to open. Guess that's a bug... and I just have to get used to not using this feature anymore.

Well, that is intended behaviour that follows all the conventions used elsewhere in foobar2000 and other applications. So, do what tpijag said. The options he suggested are there for this exact purpose.

As this is not a bug, this thread will now be moved from Support.

Or choose to use the power and convenience of foobar2000's various library viewers and stay within the program itself and stop using the File menu.

Oof it's gonna be tough to throw the habits away... i've been using winamp for too long...
well what else can i do... is there a way to cross out the Open file option or something like that? sometimes there's a party in our apartment and i seriously don't want to see my 100+ playlist clear the next day you see:D

Or add foo_playlist_attributes and temporarily or permanently lock various aspects of playlist - including inadvertently replacing the playlist contents. Or tell others to keeps their bloody fingers off your keyboard!

As we say in our country, once alcohol music, and especially woman are involved, there's hardly a time to think about anything else. How can I add foo_playlist_attriutes if that's not a stupid question?
