Sansa Fuze + / iPod Sound Quality / Smartphones

First question...

Is Sansa Fuze + as they say "almost on the same level as iPod quality sound"?

Second question...

Do all iPods have a consistent sound quality between Classic/Shuffle/Touch, etc?

Third question...

Are there any smartphones that match the iPod sound quality that is better Sansa Fuze - in other words: Is getting a dedicated player still a deal or should one go straight to phones?

Close. RMAA measurements for the Fuze+, and the iPod Classic. The Fuze+ has a teeny tiny bit of hiss with my highly efficient IEMs when nothing's playing, but with a perfect output impedance of 0.5?. The iPod Classic is dead silent even with my IEMs, but with a less than perfect output impedance of 5.5? (hardly a problem, IMO). The Fuze+ outputs 0.5V while the iPod Classic outputs 0.84V (it gets about 4dB louder, provided that it's not a volume-capped european version, unless you install Rockbox on it, which lifts the cap).

iPhones have very good output with low output impedance, though perhaps lower voltage (needs confirmation). Other smartphones are hit or miss, with problems such as low volume, high output impedance, CPU or I/O induced noise when changing tracks, etc… Another problem being lower amount of storage.

I own both a Fuze+ and an iPod Classic, and for every day use I much prefer the Fuze+, mostly because it's very light, and because flash storage / microsd cards don't have the lag that comes with the HDD in the iPod Classic.

Edit: here's my review of the Fuze+, running Rockbox.
