This is a classical piece used incidentally in the BBC Horizon documentary of 1996 Boxgrove Man.
My son is learning violin loves it and wants the music for the whole thing. Any suggestions, even vague possible composers would be very welcome. I've had nothing but blanks so far.

Judging from this short sample, I would say it's music made for the TV show; perhaps based on a popular/folk tune.
But I might be wrong... |

In the category of "vague possible composers" I would suggest Georg Philipp Telemann.
Given that is was a BBC program, Handel is another obvious possibility. |

It sounds like "Shepherd's Hey" by Percy Grainger, in some kind of orchestral arrangement. I could be wrong, of course, because I'm basing it on a catchy phrase which is, presumably, of folk origin, and could have been reused. Sounds too chirpy to be Baroque or Classical (in strict sense), unless hepped up a bit.
I guess you could ask the Beeb? It's probably in the archives, somewhere? |
