I want to spend time during the day just ripping CD's into WAVS and then set off some sort of batch routine in EAC to encode them into MP3's and FLACS overnight (and delete the WAVs at same time).
I think I read somewhere that this could be done, but I am not sure how. Thanks G |

Sounds like you are after the Compression Queue Control Center.
Here is a thread, but you could search for more. NB: Why is this in "MP3 - Tech"? Please pay attention to the forum in which you post. I will move to "CD Hardware/Software". -------------------- I'm on a horse.

Rip directly to FLAC, lossless formats do not have a huge impact ripping times (most computers could compress to lossless faster than the drive can supply data), then convert to mp3 overnight.

Ripping to WAV and encoding overnight is an excellent idea, but the tool to use is NOT EAC.
Tangering created a series of prog's, whose primary one - Catwalk - is designed to "walk" through any series of folders, converting them to FLAC's, to mp3s, applying mp3Gain (or ScaleConvert), filling in the Cuesheet and tags, and anything else you can think of. The download is available from: http://tangerine.uw.hu/prog/ And it comes with very nice documentation. However there are some fine threads about it on HA, check: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....showtopic=43344 http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....showtopic=29554 http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....showtopic=32627 And more, if you do a search. There are other programs that also will work overnight, such as Case's sweep (No longer available from case, but available here): http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....16entry318416 And UniversalFront: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....showtopic=24449 I have had tremendous luck with Catwalk, and strongly recommend you give it a whirl. Rip directly to FLAC, lossless formats do not have a huge impact ripping times (most computers could compress to lossless faster than the drive can supply data), then convert to mp3 overnight. Ripping to WAV, then encode using batch files to FLAC and MP3 is definitely the fastest. But you lose the auto-tagging.I recommend ripping to FLAC -0 first (using Garf-tuned FLAC, based on Josef Pohm's test it's the second fastest lossless compression). Later, recompress to whatever you want using batch files or Catwalk (see Ishtov's post). You can also use Synthetic Soul's tag to transfer the tags. -------------------- Nobody is Perfect.

QUOTE I want to spend time during the day just ripping CD's into WAVS and then set off some sort of batch routine in EAC to encode them into MP3's and FLACS overnight (and delete the WAVs at same time). I did the same thing when I ripped all my cd's. It took me awhile to find a good way to do it and eventually settled on catwalk. It is great because you can get catwalk to do almost anything, especially with the other tools in Tangerine's software suite. Find them all at the above link. Also, if you want I can send or upload the .ini files I made to encode my cd's into flac and mp3. I found this to be the best (fastest) way to rip and encode all the cd's into flac. Oops someone already beat me to it. But this is definitely the best way. |
