CD plays fine on stereo, pc whatever. Ripping to WAV uncompressed is also crackly.

Does this affect all your rips, or is it a single CD? This should not happen at all. I guess it would be beneficial to address this problem first, maybe a moderator can split this topic, so that the ripping issue is solved regardless of the ongoing LAME discussion.
It's only audiophile if it's inconvenient.

Just throwing a guess out here - if it happens on all CDs ripped in that drive, could it be a Big Endian issue?

It's not the drive. Or the CD. Can rip fine with the likes of itunes etc

You would be better served by providing information about how you have EAC configured and what happens if you rip other discs instead of just telling us that it doesn't work, leaving us to guess what might be the problem.

Including a log file would be a good start.

Waiting over a month to get back to us doesn't seem like a good way to get help either.
